One more thing to consider is your video card-PP works great for me playing native files only when I’m not going out through my Blackmagic Card. People have reported better results using Kona cards.

Makes me wonder about the fact that the Adobe web tutorials never show someone working with a broadcast monitor, hmmm.

Hopefully this will improve with the version 6!

I’ve found that large stills will cause this behavior, over 3K, so perhaps one of your graphics is causing the problem? What kind of media are you working with and does it happen on a particular clip?

I upgraded to Lion in hopes of stability improvements, but it performs same at best on my system and I boot from Snow Leopard when working with Premiere (I’m rebooting 4-5 times per day on a good day).

Premiere seems to perform very inconsistently on Mac and hopefully this will improve in Premiere 6. When I get a chance I’m going to try and run under Boot Camp and see if there’s an improvement.

I’m running on a 2010 Mac Pro 8 Core with NVIDIA Quadro 4000 and 26g Ram.

I’m not sure why you’re having playback problems, what codec are you trying to play and what kind of graphics card do you have? Try the make sequence from clip command and see if that helps.

You need to install the Blackmagic Desktop software to play back through your card. I don’t have the link but you can find it on their website. This will give you Blackmagic sequences to play through your card (which is a hassle IMO).

Unfortunately in my experience playback with the BM card is rather poor, I’m working with a 2010 Mac Pro and NVIDIA Quardro 4000 and have lots of issues when using the BM card, I’m curious to know how it works for you.

Hi Tim,

I think you’ve pinpointed the issue, when I drag a file into another drive and then import it the audio is fine. The file was initially on the laptops hardrive (which has a lot of free space). I’ve tried repairing my permissions & trashing my preferences but that didn’t solve the problem.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for clarifying that for me, I kept everything in the same AE project (and avoided numbers in the file name) and dynamic link’s been working great. I’ve also used your method for opening the AE project file first. Thanks!!!

Eric: I’m using the browser to import the BPAV folders, not the files transcoded from FCP. Working directly off the SXS cards is not a practical solution for me since I’m working with a project shot over 9 days.

I’m just going to transcode everything to ProRes, I don’t have time to troubleshoot this and am interested to see if my experience is smoother than my last working with DSLR footage.

Hi Tom,

I do appreciate your offer on the XDCAM clips but there isn’t anything wrong with the clips, they play fine in FCP. I”ll try again on my tower and see if the issue replicates itself.

I don’t really understand how to use your method for dynamic link applies to my situation. You seem to be able to create the dynamic links correctly but perhaps I’m misunderstanding?

Avid MC is definitely under consideration but I’d like to give PP a fair shake first.

Hey Tom,

I was trying to use dynamic link to stabilize some shots in AE. II stabilize the first shot, it works, showing up on the PP timeline. I stabilize the second shot and my first shot in PP gets switched out with second shot I stabilized.

But why should there have to be a work around, shouldn’t it just work? If one has been using software for a while and new features are added one can be more inclined to use work arounds, but as a new user this is a real turn off. I wanted to try Premiere because of the native editing, not working, dynamic link, not working…

From what I gather the software runs much better on PC. OK, just needed to let of some steam…
