Cool! Thanks Floh! I’ll post back in 2 weeks the results. And get back to Matt at M100 if I like the trial version. Again, many thanks to you.

I am not familiar with the speed of the macpros but I recently got an Xserve and will move the Kona 3x from a G5. The xserve is an old (later 2006) with dual 3.0 chip 5160 Xeon Quad Core. It has an Server OS 10.5.8 installed. Can that OS be used? Is the CPU good enough to get me to real time. I read your post a while back regarding the specs but those are for non servers. I got that because Kona 3X wont work on a newer machine. I saw the specs on AJA’s site and this one model is still within specs and the last for the Kona pci X. Do you think I’ll still get real time FX? Im still waiting for the pci-x riser to move the Kona and hoping I’ll be set to get my system running.
BTW: I got 2 additional ADM SATA hard drive modules for the Xserve of 1 TB per module. Can that be used for video storage? I have external 10 drives of 3TB external U320 SCSI but dont have the controller yet. Thanks Floh for your time.

Thanks Floh for the information. You were right about the ProRez, I read it at the FCP forum, that made me confused. -Gerry

    Hi David,
Thanks for the push. After an exhaustive google search and multiple trial and error, my system finally gone smooth 2:45am. Yup, ProRez422 wont work well, though I can capture video and audio really sharp but none of the audio synced. The best setting I can use is (AJA KONA3: 29.97 10 Bit) Only realtime I get is the 3 way color corrector. For now its alright. BTW MBQLooks works now. Took an hour to render 3.5 mins. Ouch.
    Many thanks,
    Gerry

    Hi David,
I read your post. But not sure of all of those terms, so I just have to try. I am not really familiar with anything HD yet even ProRes422 at this time. I’m here to get more understanding about what and how I can use my existing system. Thanks for the help.
As Bob mentioned “…and capture from your Kona 3 at ProRes422 to your internal boot drive (this is a test, and you will delete these files later) just to see if it works. ”
I would like to see it work since it took me a while to build this system and unfortunately, I felt like this will take too much rendering for the kind of work that I do. I even thought that the Kona card will help the CPU in processing effects but basically a capture card. I never had problems with HDV through firewire anyway. Now I even get “hardware failed to render” messages as I use the FCP and Kona3 combination. Pict below. I must check my settings again. My audio too is totally unsynced.

For years I’ve been using media100 and would like to try FCP because of the plugins.

    Thanks Again

    Hi ,

Michael: “Frame buffer should be 29.97 also not 30”
    – Change setting Kona frame buffer and still having dropped frames.

Richard: “It certainly seems like your drives should be fast enough, but I thought that only Quad G5 Power PCs could capture Pro Res. That might be your problem. I’ve certainly captured SD pro res on a Dual G5, but never HD”
    – Checked with Kona about Legacy system and I think I’m within the specs for HD.

Bob, Tried your step by step instructions. I dont have any firewire drives anyway but still getting that dropped frame.

I tried going to the user preference in FCP and deselected the “Abort capture on dropped frames” Somehow it works but I am not sure what the result will be. I’m very new with the system. Also I found out that the clips runs smooth and sharp but there were long black clips at the end of the clip with just audio.
I will look through the older post if there are similar problems. Thank you all and if theres anything related links you know, please advice.
BTW: Never had problems capturing through firewire before. Just want the Kona to work.

    Hi Richard,
    Thanks that was quick.
I have a dual channel raid with 5x300gb Seagate in each enclosure set to Raid 0. Atto UL4D pci-x, Still about 80% left. I wrote the settings of FCP on the first post. Anything else that I missed? Please let me know. Do you need the control panel setting? Should I make desktop picture and post it?
I tried DiskWhack Test from AJA system test: at file size 128MB/Video Frame Size @1920×1080 10 bit RGB/Disable file system cache(checked) : Read 432.o MB/s. Write 342.6 MB/s
    Thanks, Gerry
