We got the same setup and most likely same problem. We use it for long duration shots like wedding ceremonies. Playback always have problems with every cut so we avoid using the JVC. We use firewire to convergent to kona3. We know the problem but never checked the fix yet. Its an old camera but you can still get a digital recorder for that from Focus Enhancement. I’m sure its from the firewire jvc has, we have Canons and never had problems capturing.

    Hi Olof,
Both are from HDV sources from firewire to Convergent to Media100. Are there settings in Media 100 that we need to change upon capturing from tape? I am not sure if it is automatic. I thought that once the settings are made in Media 100, it will convert the video to the specified format you want, like 1080 regardless of the incoming format. Anyways, just trying to get ahead before the camera arrives.
    Thanks again.

Thanks Floh, Got it working with the settings you gave me. From 1.5 hours of capture time to 14+ hours.
What is the difference between ProRez 422 and the HQ version? I dont have a high end HD monitor but how much is the difference between capturing ProRez 422 compared to 10 bit uncompressed? Many thanks again. – Gerry

Hi Jonathan, Please clarify the procedure, I dont have that camera yet. Once you hit SET, and choose play option, are there options to play back the entire video from start to end? Or, just the clip you selected, or both. Thanks again.

I had a question earlier how to output to HDV. Is that possible? Through Firewire? From Media 100HD? I saw a stand alone BluRay burner that can record High Definition BD. Anybody tried this? I am sure this will cut hours of encoding and burning. I’m do weddings a lot and 6 hours burning is just half the program I previously estimated. The usual length is appox. 2hrs. Thanks again.

If you have an hour finished project, to export and burn to BluRay Disc, what is an average estimated time to complete this? Just cut edits. It might depend on the systems specs but there must be a close guess of the rendering time. My mac is a quad 3.0 older Xeon 10gb ram. Any ideas? Thanks again.

I hear you guys. Thanks. In fact I still have some old apple macs 9600, G3, and G4’s with XS and XR’s installed and still working. Actually, one of them the 9600 have a Media 100 ICE FX card still installed and can run anytime. I show some guys here how realtime I get with those machines. They even thought I’m using a different Mac OS version because its OS 9 the different OSX, who knows. I used to run the Cinelook film damage FX on that one which renders a 3.5 min clip in AE for a day. hehe! I am saving a piece of Media 100’s history here. I still have 2 G4’s in rack mounts we use to edit onsite presentations until now but in 16×9. I know how quick and fast I can do things with Media100. I even have a Media 100 installed in my truck for my kids to watch movies. For real! See picts below:

See the junction box attached on the top right (painted black). Below is another picture of the box, I guess that looks familiar with you. My own design and hacks.

I hope you understand that I’m crazy with Media 100 like you! LOL
    Cheers!

    Thanks Floh,
I got it. This is what you call added value. Nice. I told you Media 100 got some surprises for me. LOL I think this was not in the tutorial, right? Is there an option to render Boris faster? Thanks again.

    Hi Floh,
Thanks gain for the info. Well, to the people who might end up reading this post with an Xserve. I just found out that Apple sells a raid card:
The Xserve RAID Card delivers enhanced storage performance and data protection through a powerful hardware RAID engine, 256MB of cache, and an integrated 72-hour battery for protecting cache data. The card requires Mac OS X Server v10.5 or later and replaces the built-in SATA/SAS controller board in your Intel-based Xserve. Enhance storage performance and data protection by configuring your system with the Xserve RAID Card and multiple SAS or SATA hard drives. The Xserve RAID Card replaces the built-in SATA/SAS controller board and does not use a PCI Express slot. Coupled with two or more hard drives, the Xserve RAID Card offers improved performance and data protection to your Xserve system, up to 318MB/s in RAID 0 and 198MB/s in RAID 5 of sequential read performance. This hardware RAID option supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and Enhanced JBOD and has 256MB of cache.
The Raid card is quite expensive for the older model Xserves and cost about $999.00 in addition to the Media 100 after the trial date expires. WOW
So, I guess in a way I can add an additional dual display video card in replacement of the Atto UL5D and keep the Kona3X on its designated slot. Anyway without the GPU upgrade, I’ll try it today.
Is 318 MB/s good enough? Compressed or uncompressed? Thanks again.

Hi Doug, Thanks man for the lift. I feel better already knowing the system M100 works like that. I felt the same way and could have done it sooner but always short of budget. lol. I guess I posted the same issues long time ago again and again and tried to convince myself. This is it! Time to get broke again.
