Yes, I shoot in 24P, and I’ve used the 1/24 shutter, but it doesn’t achieve the effect I’m looking for. I’d like to leave trace images of subjects moving quickly through the frame.

Matt’s suggestion to do it in Motion seems logical but I haven’t yet found “posterize time.”

I’ll keep poking around for an answer.

Thanks, everyone, but I see only how to lower shutter speed to 1/24. How can I get it to 1/15?

I’ve also have used the Finder to copy. Although I’ve never had troubles copying from the card, I have from one drive to another, until I started locking files on the drive. But I’m about to move from a Powerbook to a MBPro, which will surely have Leopard, and therefore may behave differently.

If I move to P2CMS, how do I target an external drive? I’ve searched but cannot figure it out.

    Thanks in advance.

I couldn’t agree more. The manual is indecipherable. At least you were able to figure out how to export to a targeted drive. Me, I’m still copying from locked P2 cards to my drives. Once they’re copied, I lock those files. Subsequent copies I continue to keep locked… and so far no files have been lost.

Still, with all the warnings against P2 ingest on Macs via Finder, I wish I could find a more foolproof workflow.

I tried copying P2 card files to my Mac using P2CMS last week, but I can’t figure out how to send files to an external drive, which is what I must do given my small laptop hard drive. So I ended up copying on the finder level, in spite of all the warnings, since it’s worked for me for a year.

Even so, I’d rather follow Apple’s/Green’s/Panasonic’s recommendation. I just can’t figure out how to direct the export to my chosen target.

[Jerry Hofmann] “Just select the clips you want to recapture and recapture them. “

Exactly what I’m used to doing, but in FCP 6 it captures the whole tape.

Thanks for the tip, Jerry, but I don’t remember doing that before. My memory of FCP 5 and 4.5 before it was that I highlighted anything in the project, sequence or clips and chose “batch capture,” and it captured only the selected items.

So I tried using media manager to create a new project, and now it looks as if my sequence is in fact recapturing. Question is, how can I recapture clips that aren’t in my sequence?

For the record, I’m capturing via RS-422 from a Beta deck via my Sony 1500 DV deck.

    Thanks again.

    Barry,

I guess I might have checked the manual; makes me feel pretty dumb,. But thanks for the solution.

What’s FCP missing in not being able to edit MXF natively? Is it a matter of the time it takes to convert to QT, or something else?

Thanks to all, especially Devil & Arthur. Quantum and Blue Ray seem the best P2 archiving solution, though I’m still concerned that Blu Ray could be the next Betamax. On the other hand, who cares if HD-DVD wins the big battle, so long as Blu Ray remains for data storage.

Anyone else know about the dependability of DL DVDs. I’ve got a lot of time invested in backing up MXF files to them, and am hopeful they’re secure.

I wonder, Arthur, if the Quantum solution is worth the high expense?

    Thanks again.
