recapture sequence
Posted by Gerret Warner on December 26, 2007 at 11:33 pmMaybe I’m crazy, but I thought the last time I recaptured footage of a sequence I simply selected it and chose “recapture.” Today, in FCP 6, every tape is being captured in its entirety. what am I doing wrong?

December 27, 2007 at 12:00 amYou didn’t create a new sequence with media manager that only referenced what was actually in the sequence you’re recapturing.

December 29, 2007 at 5:22 pmThanks for the tip, Jerry, but I don’t remember doing that before. My memory of FCP 5 and 4.5 before it was that I highlighted anything in the project, sequence or clips and chose “batch capture,” and it captured only the selected items.
So I tried using media manager to create a new project, and now it looks as if my sequence is in fact recapturing. Question is, how can I recapture clips that aren’t in my sequence?
For the record, I’m capturing via RS-422 from a Beta deck via my Sony 1500 DV deck.
Thanks again.

Exactly what I’m used to doing, but in FCP 6 it captures the whole tape.

December 30, 2007 at 1:42 amIt’s because you didn’t create a new sequence that references only the media used in it… you have to use media manager to do this. There’s instructions in the online help about the routine… but it’s done with the current sequence, then managed through media manager.
