I don’t know if it is really applicable to your situation, but I too was having crashes and failed renders on my Retina MacBook. When I forced Premiere to stop using the CUDA hardware acceleration and just use software, the problem went away. This has only happened with one project so far, but something with my layered graphic effects caused a problem.

    Hope this helps.

February 14, 2013 at 1:50 pm in reply to: Cache-A: file sizes different on LTO and VTAPE

Ah. You are right. Previously I was comparing CatDV to LTO, which seem to use the same file size method. I was also checking SAN to VTAPE which both use the same method.

This time around I was comparing Finder to LTO which is different and in this particular case very different.

    Thanks for the help!

    >> Also, I’m just wondering why my current LTO tape only shows the last two catalogs i wrote, even when i have much more on there. Then when i go to restore everything works fine?? << If the V-Tape is erased for some reason, like switching to another LTO and then back, the VTape by default will only contain the files archived from that point onward. If you use the web browser interface and have it show you "Current Tape" it will show you the actual contents of the LTO. It can be confusing, so we try to finish a tape before ejecting, or if we must eject a tape before it is full, then we try to restore the tape contents to the VTape before continuing. Not always practical, but it can help. I hope this helps. Gerald Goldman Director of Post Production Grace Creek Media http://www.gracecreek.com

I found the properties file. Thanks.

It has the correct information in it, so that is not the issue.

Is there another place that CatDV Server checks for IP information?

    Thanks for the reply Bryson.

I have not been able to locate the properties file. I’m guessing it is hidden under Lion.

I’ll look into the server upgrade.

    Bob,

Thanks for the reply. The server version is 6.5.0.

The IP address is correctly entered in the Config.

It must be getting the old address from some settings file that is getting loaded upon launch.

There is a file that sets license info, etc, but I can’t locate it in the finder. Perhaps it is hidden.

Is there a Prefs file that can be thrown away?

This is only really a problem upon reboot, but it would be nice to get everything set up correctly.

    Thanks again.

I have found that copying to Cache-A from multiple machines, at the same time, has resulted in errors. However, Cache-A did not lock up. It reported the error in the transfer log.

The tricky part is that Cache-A builds the file structure first and then copies the files, so the LTO tape may show the files, but the files are not actually there.

Staging files to the device and then moving them to the VTape is a good way to avoid these errors. It’s a manual process, but reliable.

    Hope this helps.

August 31, 2012 at 10:07 pm in reply to: CatDV and Cache-A Archiving Questions

Thanks for the info on version 9 and 10. We’ll be upgrading in the near future.

The tape ejection method actually works pretty well. CatDV gets to do what it wants to do. Separately, we can manually stage files in the manner that we like, and then we can insert the tape and basically hit the “burn” button.

It could be a real hassle if someone needs to restore something before a tape is filled, but I think we can deal with that.

It’s a work around, but I think it will keep us going for now.

    Thanks again.
