Server IP address
We had to recently change our network and assign new IP addresses to our machines. The machine that runs our CatDV server software received a new static IP address as a part of this.
The IP address was changed in the Server config and appears there correctly.
The problem we encounter is that if the server Control Panel is restarted, it pulls the old IP address from some pref file and then fails to connect. The IP address in the server config remains correct and when the server config is resaved, CatDV starts looking at the correct IP address and then works properly.
We can’t locate a pref file for the server software to see if we can change it.
Is there a way to fix this issue?

you have not stated what version of CatDV you are running, but in the new CatDV Control Panel on the server, you click on the setup wizard, and you assign the IP address right there.

Thanks for the reply. The server version is 6.5.0.
The IP address is correctly entered in the Config.
It must be getting the old address from some settings file that is getting loaded upon launch.
There is a file that sets license info, etc, but I can’t locate it in the finder. Perhaps it is hidden.
Is there a Prefs file that can be thrown away?
This is only really a problem upon reboot, but it would be nice to get everything set up correctly.

If a shutdown doesn’t get you sorted, check the properties file
/usr/local/catdvServer/catdv.properties
That should be updated with your new info. If not, you can manually edit it. (back it up first!)
Also, I’d think about upgrading your server to the latest version (again, back up first!) the servers are all free upgrades.

I have not been able to locate the properties file. I’m guessing it is hidden under Lion.
I’ll look into the server upgrade.

It’s hidden in all versions of OSX.
Use the terminal and you should be able to locate that directory.
Any of the Squarebox or JB&A crew, can you pitch in, could it have installed in an alternate location??

I found the properties file. Thanks.
It has the correct information in it, so that is not the issue.
Is there another place that CatDV Server checks for IP information?

Long boring explanation: the IP address that the control panel uses is stored separately (using a built-in Java preferences mechanism) from the /usr/local/catdv/catdv.properties setting which the CatDV Server uses. (Theoretically you could use the control panel to administer a server on a different machine, though this has never been fully implemented.) Normally they are both the same but it sounds like in your case they’ve got out of synch.
Go into the Installation panel (not the normal Server Config window) and enter the IP address there and that should resolve the issue.
