Agreed on the bottom line (as mentioned earlier) — but if you can somehow get the CC muxed in (I used DVD LabPro 2.x), then DVDA4 will pass them along to the final DVD (assuming it uses the mpeg “asis”) — it just won’t set the CC Flags in the IFO (so a software dvd player won’t give you the option to show CC). But I believe you will be able to see them on a TV (if the TV has the CC Display turned on)

Not sure which is better (assuming it’s NTSC). With subtitles you can provide a menu to show/hide them, and they are easier to turn on/off with the remote control. CC will require your viewer to know how to turn on the closed captions on their tv set. You can include both just to cover your bases…

afaik, neither will mux in the SCC file.

However, it is possible that if you have the tools to pre-mux the SCC File into a valid mpeg2 stream, then DVDA4 (without recompressing) will retain the CC in an authored DVD. You would have to burn to DVD Folders, and then edit the IFO file to indicate that the CC line(s) are there in order to turn on/off the CC with a software dvd player. A set-top dvd player might work without needing to set the CC Flags in the IFO.

On the PC, folks have been doing this for several months using Ulead’s DVD MovieFactory 5.0 (~$50). They create the HD-DVD, and burn to regular DVD5 discs. The Toshiba HD-DVD Player will recognize and play it as HD-DVD.

How will that give you audio during a Timeline Preview?

Unfortunately, this is still the case in Vegas 7a (I was hoping they would update that in V7).

On the plus side, it appears in Vegas 7 you can now sumultaneously preview on external monitor as well as the computer preview window.

When you go to save your project, there is a checkbox option under the “Save as type” — it is “Copy and trim media with project”

NOTE: it stores the video and audio as separate streams

I’d rather go with two separate DVD5 discs in a 2-disc dvd holder. But that’s probably a “personal preferences” thing…

I agree with everyone on trying different media, etc…

What make/model DVD Player does your client have? DVD Architect inserts some invalid references in the DVD Info files, and while a majority of players don’t mind the code, recently some LG DVD Recorder/Players have had an issue with the code in question. It’s possible your client has a player that doesn’t like the bad reference info…
