Is the original artwork vector? If it was created in Photoshop, chances are that it is raster and not very high resolution. Your best bet is to create it in Illustrator and then bring it into AE as an illustrator or EPS file. If you only have Photoshop, recreate it in a large resolution – typically 3-4 times the needed size.

There are many ways to do it. Anywhere from old school FX where you build the claws and shoot it tearing through on green screen or you could do it all in CG. It depends on where your capabilities and resources lie. My guess is that it will be more straightforward as a practical shot. With green paper and a green background if you want to composite the foreground and background in post.

There are many decisions to make in there. AE is an industry standard that will not be toppled anytime soon. Not only because of it’s history but, it is what every shop uses, what every artist uses and is well supported with fabulous plugins. It would be wise to learn AE if you are going to learn one tool. Motion is a great tool as well but, I would say it’s more like a plugin to FCP and AE in terms of it’s use at this point. Some will go to it for something specific and then bring that into a host program.
I would mention another tip, don’t ignore the conceptual either. Most of the high-end, beautiful work you see if not due to the AE amastery alone but, a good sense of design and type. I recommend spending time in that world as well if you really want to create that level of work.

Rafael is saying it should be covered even if it is out of warranty as this was labeled as bad h/w. Here is the Apple notice. There are many discussions of this issue on Apple’s support forums.

Amen to that. I love my MBPs but, I have had some kind of issue with everyone I have owned.

Sounds like the dreaded Nvidia failure to me. I just had that happen to mine and had to take it in to Apple. Happy ending for me as I walked out with a brand new MBP however.

Good luck with that 🙂
This was a major disappointment for me. It seems to be giving more evidence for the conspirators who claim Apple is moving to all consumer. I am not sure I would even call it a Macbook Pro any more.

I would suggest looking into design books. Focus on typography and general design books that talk abotu the principles. Everything that is done well in Mograph follows these principles and exhibits beautiful type.
Good type books:
Stop stealing sheep by Spiekermann
Designing with Type by Craig and BevingtonGood design books:
Design Basics by Laure
Graphic Design: The New Basics by Lupton-gl

My question is, does it have to look 3D? You could pull of a nice looking 2D speaker, especially if you use soundkeys with it.

Sounds like you want to do a little in AE but the assembly should certainly be done in an NLE app. It’s murder doing sound in AE not to mention multiple layers of it. Any NLE will also do pan and scan so you may be able to do everything in your NLE of choice.
