[dog food] “I saw a MAC Book PRO.. running Multi Clip on FCP at the Apple store and it was stuttering a it.. I never get that on my DUal 2.5 G5… Maybe that store model did not have enough RAM…”

Most likely or there were apps running in the background or…who knows wht they do in the Apple store 🙂 I have 2 gigs of ram in mine and have no problems. Motion runs better than my any of my previous macs ever did.

[dog food] “Please tell me more about this new computer??”

Only just that Apple is probably going to put the new Core 2 Duo CPU form Intel in the MBP. If you are not in a panic then you may want to hold off for a month or less. If you are in a panic, then go ahead. Personally, I could not care less as I am already very happy with mine and wouldn’t trade the productivity I have enjoyed from it for the past 5 months for any new laptop.

[dog food] “How much faster is the 2.16 Mac Book Pro vs the PowerBook 1.67 ?”

    Not even compareable.

My MBP 2.0 15″ is much faster than the Powerbook 1.67 I had before. So much so that I was wondering how it compared to my old Dual G5 and it’s faster than that in most operations. It’s just a totally different world. The only real hitch with it is the Adobe apps.

Now, I should tell you that it’s pretty certain that there are new MBPs coming out soon that will have the Core 2 Duos in them and will probably be 10-30% faster.

I think you are just barely in there with the minimum system specs. Video wise you will be fine with FCP. Just don’t expect to play with Motion.

According to the specs, they max out at 3gig with two slots. Why? Couldn’t say but I am guessing it is a chipset limitation.

It’s pretty safe to assume it will be a day and night difference.

I am not suprised as the Quad G5 is no slacker and 5.1 is not optimized for Intel yet. Sodon’t see the MacPro as a *replacement* for a Quad G5. I would only *add* a MP to a workflow at this point. In the spring, I think you start seeing more speed motivation to switch. Once AE and the other Adobe apps are UB you will see a big increase in performance and the FCS team will ahve been able to optimize more.
