Hi Svendus,

No doubt higher than 4K resolution will be coming to Vegas Pro, but it is also a matter of when. Maybe Vegas Pro 17 maybe not until 18.

If you haven’t already posted here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/vegas-pro-forum/ you may want to login and voice your request. There are several threads there about getting more than 4K or you could start you own. As you know, the more the wheel squeaks the sooner it will get greased!

The resolution for greater than 4K isn’t a huge problem. Definition is. Hanging a large photograph on the wall is a matter of having enough pixels and large paper, but without the color definition it becomes just a poster. Getting the color requires depth and that is a huge problem especially when combined with putting that photograph in motion.

If we do a search on Preview Speed problems, we see their are a huge amount of users of NLE’s that cannot get their high resolution video to Preview at normal speeds, 30p and 60p. So having large resolution acquisitions causes an issue with editing in realtime. If we had a few hundred thousands to throw at as does Hollywood, it would be somewhat more simple. But to get 6-8K to run on a high end pro-sumer computer after adding color correction, FX’s, LUTs, speed changes, stabilization isn’t an easy combination of CPU. GPU, memory, storage and architecture.

But, it appears the market and inventive driven industry is headed there and will reach high standards, sooner or later!

Your previous thread is still listed here, I do not know why you cannot see it.

I would do a full reset and test. Does VP15 still not run properly?

I would turn GPU acceleration ‘Off’, does VP now work properly?

Have you recently update the GPU driver, or has Windows done an update driver automatically? If so, I would roll back the GPU driver to a previous version, does VP15 work properly now?

Right click on the preview display and look at ‘Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback’. If it is checked, un-check and does the problem still persist?

You could do a search for ‘Clean Un-Install of Vegas Pro 15’ and un-install VP15. Does VP13 and 14 now work again? Probably not because I think it is in your system, but worth a try. If VP13 and 14 now work, I would again install VP15 with the latest build. Does 13, 14, and 15 all work properly?

Francois, have you tried TeamViewer? It will be in real time, however there is going to be certain delays depending on the speed of your internet connection, the speed of your client’s internet connection and the speed of the piping from you provider to their provider, but it may be worth a try.

In addition to the questions from Francois, please post the specs of your source media. If you do not already a copy of Mediainfo, go here: https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo and download the free app. Start Mediainfo and first select the ‘View’ tab, from the drop down select ‘Text’ mode. Then select the ‘File’ tab and load your source media file. Either copy and paste here the results or post here a screenshot of the results.

How are you changing the Preview Display size? Are you stretching or shrinking the size by adjusting the Preview Window?

I’m confused that you state through 3 version of Vegas Pro you have had this problem, how you could have produced any video without being able to preview the timeline? Perhaps you have only had this problem with certain projects or using certain source media. Can you explain further?

Above the Project Media bin windows there are some options, such as a ‘Play’ button, ‘Stop’ button, ‘Auto Preview’ button, and to the right of that is a ‘View’ button. From the drop down list of the ‘View’ button select ‘Media Tags’.

Hi Rich,

I’ve never seen this error or read about it before. I would perform a full reset of Vegas Pro. While holding down the ‘Ctrl+Shift’ keys double left click on the Vegas Pro desktop shortcut. Then check the box ‘Delete all cached application’, then left click on ‘Yes’. This will reset Vega Pro to it’s original installation setting and delete the stored up cached application data which sometimes will cause Vegas to act strangely.

If you look in the folder of your source media the proxy files will have the same name but the extension will be ‘*.sfvp0’.

If I have clips in the Project Media bin that have already created proxy files, and I select all, the ‘Create Video Proxy’ option is highlighted and available. If I select it, Vegas will create proxy files on all the clips within that selection that do not previously have proxies and skip those who have.

So, it appears to me that your Vegas Pro is acting strangely and my first step would be to perform the full reset.

Did Windows update your GPU drivers? If so, fall back to the previous.

Have you performed a full reset to your Vegas Pro?

Hi Phil,

Beings how you are stuck on your capture method, I would make one more try at using an intermediate file. I suggested this earlier in the thread, but I may have not explained it properly and I’m not sure if you tried it and if so what the results were.

After you record your game footage, bring it into a new project and render out an intermediate in something like Sony XAVC Intra or Magix Intermediate format(s). Either of those are going to be much larger (file size) than your original, but the Magix Intermediate is going to be the smaller of the two options.

Then bring that intermediate back into another new project and preview it. If there appears to be no playback speed changes, then I would use this intermediate rather than the original for your project that you do to include the face video.

If this works you have some extra steps and can decide if they are worth it.
