Hey Shane and Andrew! Thanks for your help. It appears that the culprit is HEAT! At 2:00 in the morning, everything seems to be working fine. All of my equipment is cool now. It was warm earlier in the day, but I didn’t think it was that warm. I guess it doesn’t take much. Thanks again.

In my Audio/Video Settings under Summary, Sequence is set to 48kHz, Capture preset the same, Device Control Preset is FW NTSC and then under Video Playback it says [Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480]. Does anyone know how to make that recognize my deck? Hmmm. I’m very confused. Thanks for any help.

Still nothing! This is bad. I can’t capture my MiniDV with my professional deck. What the hell? I have work to do! Anybody know anything about the JVC SR-DVM700? Does heat affect these units? It’s warm, but it isn’t that warm. I shut the unit off and it started flashing Resetting. Then it went off. Then I turned it on, it was working then it flashed Resetting again and it turned off. I purchased this deck in January and have only used it a few times. This is really weird. Again, the FW controls the deck, but I get no picture or real signal that FCP can work with.

Hmmmm…..everything comes from the same tape. I have several Clips from the same tape instead of a single long clip, only because I had a Fat32 issue with the drive I was trying to capture to. It would only collect my footage in 9min segments. I will review my footage to see if the bad clips are part of a different clip than the others. But the footage was shot continuously without break. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Yes. I posted on this last week. I thought that it was Compressor that was moving my clips, but it has to be FCP. The footage is from standard mini-DV tapes captured at DV NTSC 48kHz and the audio is from a CD. I know the audio is 44.1, but I export it out at 48kHz along with the vid. The audio isn’t drifting. The whole sequence is fine beginning to end with the exception of about 4 or 5 clips that show something else. The clips themselves have slipped. I can load examples somewhere if anyone is interested. I burned a DVD of how it should look with the clips moved oddly on the FCP sequence. I can rip that and post it with the example of what is coming out. Not sure that anyone would care to watch it but it can be done. I will try to trash my render files and see what happens.

Okay, it looks like even when I export it just using Quiktime movie that my clips are moving on the timeline. Im really confused by this. I was trying to export the movie just as a quiktime file, but it’s coming out of synch there as well. It’s perfectly fine when I watch it in FCP. I have checked the settings of the timeline for both the raw footage clips and the timeline sequence and that match. I’m not sure what to do now. Can’t really start over. I supposed I could with another sequence, but that will suck to start over. Any ideas?

So does that mean compress it twice? Once as a quicktime movie and then into compressor? Or export my video file as an uncompressed movie in QT, resynch to my timeline and then export to compressor? Wow! That seems excessive. Yes, I trashed my prefs. The video and audio were in synch prior to exporting. I had to create a new sequence and move the clips on the timeline to where I thought was correct and then re-export. Check it and move it if it wasn’t right. Re-export. Huge time abuser.

MiniDV captured at 29.97 720×480 NTSC. Data Rate 3.6 MB/sec. I export the sequence directly out of FCP and into Compressor.

Thanks everyone! That was it. I thought I tried previously to save it to my harddrive and was having the same problem, but I guess not.
Oh, and the reason for wanting to capture large files is to capture and walk away. Allow me to work on other things without having to babysit the capture. That’s all. Thanks again.

One of them definitely has a FAT32 issue. I did not reformat one of my drives. This has never been a problem in the past. However, I have the same problem trying to save it to my main harddrive or to another harddrive that is properly formatted. So, I don’t think this is the problem.
