You can use the trimmer or cut them up on the timeline (split with the s key).

Be aware that you will be recomressing the mpeg video to make a DVD from your edit and you will loose some quality.

To get the video into Vegas go to File > Import > DVD Camcorder Disc.

Beyond that, you will have to be more specific wih your question.

Your machine should be fine for working with HDV, but you will want to upgrade to Vegas 7 for much immproved HDV handling.

Something’s wrong there. Does the waveform use the full height of the audio track?

If it’s part of a menu that has other video playing of a longer duration, then render it to that duration in vegas after you set it up to freeze-frame at the right moment.

The first to be listed for that menu in the Project Overview pane will be the default button for that menu. If you change the order there by dragging the positions around, you chnge the default.

You can rorate images that are part of a picture compilation, but that’s it.

You can certainly try and add a bizillion keyframes after zooming in a bit to hid the edges, but chances are, you will never get it to look quite right. If there’s really a lot of movement you will have to zoom in beyond what you can get away with resolution-wise (unless it’s an SD project from HDV).

So if you have the time to play or are getting well compensated, it could be an educational experience. Otherwise, it’s probably not worth the trouble.

[Doug Graham] “The audio and video will be in sync, but you can’t, for example, watch the video on the monitor and listen to the audio from your computer’s sound card. You have to watch and listen from the same location.”

I have never found this to be the case. How are you monitoring the audio while watching the external preview then?
