Try compressing a short quicktime sample. I think you’ll find it will be clear after it is exported.
If I understand bogiesan correctly, the limitations to the canvas are only for real-time viewing in FCP.

Check out the night vision filter at https://www.profoundeffects.com/products/camerapov/. It includes the “through the lens” overlay.

My that’s a long address! APC has a calculator (of sorts) that will allow you to choose your computer and monitor and peripherals. It is specific to the apple monitor and the dual g5 processors, just start by choosing tower, then the rest is self explanatory. If you don’t want to buy APC, use the calculator anyway to get you in the ballpark. I would by extra power, especially if you don’t go with a name brand UPC. I use strictly APC at my full-time job. I’m about to buy one for home and I’m torn between spending the money for APC which I trust completely, and finding a lesser brand that still claims high-joule surge protection in order to save money.
Hope this helps,

I just ran across Larry Jordan’s site. He sends out an fcp newsletter and this months issue contains a section on setting prefs for optimum performance. https://www.larryjordan.biz/nxltrs/nxltr_d17.html
I have not tried this, and don’t know if I will because my system seems to be running smooth for the most part.
Hope this helps,

Otherwise, check out the decklink options from Blackmagic Design. I think they start around 2 or 3 hundred dollars. https://www.decklink.com/
There are probably some consumer grade audio and composite or S-video to/from firewire converters out there that might work.
Thanks,

After firing the DP, look for something that should be neutral gray and use it. You can try using the white of an eye or teeth as a starting place also, just keep in mind, this is only a starting place cause they are usually a little yellow. After picking them, you probably need to add back a little yellow.
My question, because I’m new to FCP, is how are you white balancing using the 3way color corrector? Is there an overall hue setting that I’m missing or are you balancing the highlights, mids, and lows seperately?
Thanks,
Gary -
With the Blackmagic Design Decklink Extreme, if this happens, you can go to system prefs in the dock and go to the decklink settings, choose a different input and/or output and then put it back. It’s like it needs to be reset. Although, I haven’t noticed it in the viewer or canvas, just the external monitor.
Thanks,

June 30, 2005 at 12:17 am in reply to: Batch Capture Nightmare ! Please Help me before I jump off!In a jam, I’ve gotten past a timecode break that was too close to the in point by adding margins that crossed the timecode break. Be sure to set fcp so that it doesn’t stop or create new clip on timecode break or this won’t work either.
Hope this helps,

What is 2much2soon? Where can I find it? Did a google search, didn’t find anything related to fcp.
Thanks,
