[Herb Sevush] “Funny, but I don’t notice this next generation paying to watch movies shot on iPhones.”

They aren’t, and that was one of the biggest things that struck me in the article. First was his willingness to bet the kind of individual who buys professional cameras…which clearly stems from his observation about people who go to camera conventions.

Those are two very different segments of the population.

Second, he’s trying to argue from the perspective of a generation he is not a part of. That is doomed to fail.

Third, as you said Herb, the next generation isn’t buying anything. They are content to entertain themselves for free with YouTube media, but they aren’t spending money on it. So great, by a cheap camera so you can shoot terrible stuff that you give away for free. That’s a terrific business model! Just take a look at what people are paying good money for.

Fourth, he seems to lump in m4/3 with “cheap”. I don’t think that’s fair as m4/3 isn’t some kind of P&S format only. My GH3 does an excellent job.

Considering you mocked me for talking about this, I’d like some attribution here.

    What does that even mean?

If you actually read the rest of the thread, I say that I use Finder for personal projects, but for actual jobs where money is on the line, I don’t do that. I even linked to the utility I use for checksum verified copies.

    Way to pay attention there.

Perhaps you should give examples of the work you do before you go demanding people list out things for you.

Of course, you bring it on yourself because you are apparently here under a pseudonym and refuse to show any of your work, nor can anything about you be found.

Then you toss in an unneeded reference to a “Showtime” pilot (which could be someone with an F55 doing an independent pilot that they hope to pitch to Showtime for all I know).

Frankly, I think you don’t have any work of note, know most of what you know from reading forums, and have an attitude that bespeaks your desire to play in the big leagues (but here’s a helpful hint…you think you’re cleverer than you actually are) but are so far stuck in bush even though you think you’re so much smarter than you current level of experience.

You could also be a troll, but I know people who have a personality like yours (those who don’t know what they don’t know) so it’s possible you are just an earnest jerk.

You should really tone it down.

Of course you can’t have first-hand experience about everything, but when it’s clear that most of what you are posting about is second-hand from the Internet, AND you act like a huge jerk in the process, that coupling just makes you look pathetic.

Yes, you apparently edit your home movies or little side projects and PA from time to time.

    I don’t understand this:

[EDIT: To be fair, Adobe has made great stride in the area of Smart Renders in subsequent versions of Premier but it was a little to little, to late for me. I had already moved on.]

I am on both. I have used FCPX a fair amount, and now I’m working heavily in Premiere CC. It doesn’t have to be an either/or. I pick a) whatever is best suited to the project and b) whatever I need to be compatible with for project hand-offs.

[Bret Williams] ” I figured as much. I’m not much of a fan of disk images either. I like being able to browse and search projects in the finder myself. But of course I can see how either might be of use to someone else and their workflow.”

The other thing is that if a single archive file gets damaged, the entire contents are unusable. If it’s just the camera’s file/folder structure on the job, you may be able to recover a majority of the content.
