  • [Andrew Kimery] “Pretty much this, though occasionally you do see decent jobs (usually because the employer is trying to cast as broad a net as possible).”

Yeah, I’ve gotten both some really good gigs from Craigslist, as well as seeing those from people wanting a Red Dragon with a full Arri lighting package and sound gear for $150 a day.

  • I’d be really interested to know how much the editor of the original series back in the 80s was making, especially adjusted for inflation.

Hey Jason, what time frame are you looking at to pick up a camera? The X1000 is available now, but the XC10 won’t be available for 1-2 months.

[tony west] “But who would presume I was a hobbyist? Everybody that knows me knows I’m working on the NHL Playoffs right now. They don’t think I’m at a wedding because they know what I do for a living.

    WOOSH!

[Ryan Holmes] “Don’t worry. It won’t ship until NAB 2017, and RED won’t tell you any of the actual shipping specs of Weapon until then either! :-)”

Looks like it’s primarily the Epic Dragon with a glorified REDMOTE built into the side of the body.

[Aindreas Gallagher] “The first thing I remember buying was ram doubler for OS7 – and I may have bootlegged a bit in my time too”

I would have bootlegged too if my first software purchase was a RAM doubler! 😀

[Walter Soyka] “Is this a senseless anthropomorphization, or is there something to the idea of company as author?”

I think, more often than not, it’s the former. Easier to think in monolithic terms as opposed to the reality of the push/pull amongst a decidedly large team of individuals each responsible for tiny pieces.

[Walter Soyka] “I don’t mean to disparage Affinity, and I think that serious competition in the design space is overdue, but honestly, I question how $50 can possibly be a sustainable price point for enterprise-grade creative software.”

    Completely agree.

[Warren Eig] “People want the cheapest, not the most skilled or the best. It seems every job wants to know my rate and could care less about looking at my reel.”

Warren, you are not alone. I have had explicitly expressed to me for a potential position I applied for once. You are right, there is literally zero consideration given to skills or experience, merely who ballparks the lowest number they would ask for. Not even room for negotiations.
