Do we really need another codec in the mix of DNX/ProRes/Cineform, especially considering that Premiere will work with all of them? If you need an intermediate codec at this very moment in Premiere, you can install DNX and Premiere will use it, whether you’re on Win or OSX platforms.

Plenty of confident “guys” have told me things that are utter nonsense, so I wouldn’t put any stock in it. The description of what Apple is supposedly doing is such poor business that it doesn’t even pass an initial “smell test”.

It primarily means that Premiere Pro users would have a better option when it comes to the Mercury Playback Engine, which can currently only use NVIDIA hardware for GPU acceleration.
Sine FCPX uses OpenCL, it can take advantage of both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs.

You can already have that, though not direct from Apple.

You would need much larger than 128GB for that, and I highly doubt that the iPad will ever be able to be used in that manner, especially not for many years.
At least in the ProRes format. You can already shoot video with its camera and do a rough edit of the low-bitrate H.264 video it generates.

I’m not so worried about increasing storage capacity. I wouldn’t use it for music that much, except for maybe outside of streaming services, and I don’t plan on carrying any kind of movie collection on it. 32GB is, for me, the most (works just fine on my iPhone 4S…still nowhere near filling it up).
Probably won’t see Gigabit Wi-Fi either. Where would you be able to hook into that? I also don’t see Thunderbolt as being an option…and, again, what would you do with it if you had it?
Probably better cameras, faster processor, quad-core, and perhaps a retina display.

[Mitch Ives]It would have been helpful to know who the actual author is (not staff) and what their experience level is, so we could get some indication of their qualifications for judging what’s important and ground breaking, however.
I think if you would read the article, Mitch, you’d easily be able to glean what you’re looking for.
