This is the best thread ever. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Fox throws down a 47.952 frame rate. Awesome! I can’t wait until we get into pixel aspect ratios, alpha channels or bit depth.

To simplify the process you could use a digital delvery service such as Extreme Reach. They accept Apple ProRes quicktime or Avid DNxHD quicktime.

This clearly illustrates the disconnect between the what educators teach and skills needed for survival in the marketplace. The days of the “artist” in the edit suite are long gone; today it’s artist, engineer, compressionist, comedian and any thing else that is required to keep the clients happy. The university is doing a disservice to their students. The students aren’t being prepared for the challenges they will face once they enter the market. On the upside you have a huge advantage over your fellow “artistic” classmates.
For the sake of all mankind please tell me that your university doesn’t have a school of medicine.

If they get the training through Avid it will cost over $1k per person. Considering you’re training ‘several’ editors it’s a bargin for the broadcaster and a good deal for you. A win-win in corporate speak. -

What do you mean by modern age? Your sadly mistaken if you’re comparing broadcast to post production. This isn’t FCP or Adobe Premiere where you’re competing with high school kids using hacked software and doing the work for free. I know a lot of TD’s that don’t have a problem paying for the classes because for them it’s very cost effective, they see the return on the investment. They also pay to cross train, moving from Grass Valley to Sony, etc.
Your best bet is to find a TD that knows Grass Valley switchers that would be willing to work with you on training. Considering Zodiak is an EOL product I don’t think Grass Valley even offers training on that panel.

Ikan monitors don’t use OLED’s, but they are less expensive than the Sony.
