We run into issues like this with many of our vendors. All it takes is a little extra effort and creativity to make it work.
Adobe has to manage a huge international sales channel. They need to put in place policies and procedures that may not always make sense to the individual customers. These rules aren’t put in place to punish you, but to keep a worldwide sales channel functioning as efficiently as possible.
Give us a call, we’ll take care of you.

September 26, 2011 at 1:18 pm in reply to: Pioneer BDR 206 not meant for Macs. Please read.Eric,
The bottom line is that we have been selling the BDR-205 and now the 206 to Mac customers. Thousands of them – with very little support issues. Pioneer knows this very well, but as they told you, they do not officially have any Mac support. Yet, they also helped me put together our bundles with Roxio Toast. So they are supporting our bundling and promoting the BDR-206 for Mac.
Most of our Mac customers use USB, because Mac Books and iMacs do not have native eSata support. I have not had complaints about burn speeds before yours.
As I said in another post (possibly on another COW forum), we do not have a list of approved eSata cards, nor have we tested the BDR-206 w. Vantec enclosure under Lion. OWC sells the drives as well, all for Mac. I will try and figure out what enclosure they are using.
I think the issue is with the Vantec and Lion, but it will take us some time to figure that out for sure. We have customers using the Vantec eSata card, but once again, I don’t know that this is under Lion.
Also as I said in other threads, please give me a call. I was not in on Friday, so I am not familiar with you exact details.

We have tons of customers getting great results on Macs with the BDR-206. OWC sells the BDR-206 for Mac users as well.
I will look into potential issues with the Vantec enclosure we bundle with the BDR-206 and Lion. That may be the cause of the problems, but I doubt it.

September 25, 2011 at 8:50 pm in reply to: Pioneer BDR 206 not meant for Macs. Please read. The Pioneer support tech is WRONG! We have hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of Pioneer Blu-ray owners working with Macs.
- The Mac OS will NOT see or recognize a blu-ray burner.
- You can’t play a blu-ray disc on a Mac.
- To burn a Blu-ray requires using the FCP7 share command, Adobe Encore or Roxio Toast.
Our external BDR-206 kit works great with iMacs and MacBook Pros. Some users do report issues with eSata, which we believe is a compatibility issue with some 3rd party eSata cards. When used with USB2 you will great results.

September 4, 2011 at 9:15 am in reply to: FCS 3 is back on sale through Apple – via telesales onlyWe got in our last shipment of FCS3 the end of August. we filled our back orders and the dozen or so units left sold out in a week.
Last week half a dozen FCS3 upgrades arrived. Quite honestly, we never expected them to ship. These are now gone.
While the internets are lit up with stories that FCS3 is again shipping. We have called Apple and as of now, we can’t order more. So I’m not sure if VARs will be included in this new plan or not.
As frustrating as this is for end users, it is even more frustrating for VARs. I just don’t understand why Apple has to have all this cloak and dagger bullcrap. Who does it help?

I’m very aware of these discussion and I’ve participated in several debates with the guys over at ADK as well. Harm knows his stuff and while we disagree at times, we more often then not we recommend very similar hardware.
There can be a big difference between buying a tweaked out system from an integrator and building it yourself. These guys know how to tweak performance, what slots to use, what order to install and what patches or updates to install.
I would go back to the old AMD Dual Athlon days. System integrators made fantastic whitebox turnkeys that ran Canopus, Avid,Pinnacle and Matrox hardware. For DIYers AMD was a nightmare. Some integrators chose to stick with the more expensive HP workstations. Installing updates or patches or new drivers could create all kinds of havoc for AMD systems that were running great before. While the integrators who built these Athlon systems could tech support the users through it, for anyone else to support them was a crapshoot.
I’ve softened my take on Sandy Bridge, but I still issue caution. If you’re going to run an I/O card and a hardware RAID card, stick with X58 for now. Put an i7 hex core in it, and pay the premium for stability and peace of mind.

nice recommendation and system.
I’m still not ready to recommend Sandy Bridge or the Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard yet for our more advanced editors. If you think you are going to be using one of our advanced NLEs such as Avid or Adobe or Edius or Vegas with hardware I/O and /or a RAID, stick with our DIY8 Core i7 Hex core.
However:* If you plan on using one of these NLEs for DV, HDV or tapeless workflows like AVCH or DSLR footage; and you do not plan on adding an I/O card, then Sandy Bridge is worth considering.
* If you use consumer level video editing apps like Pinnacle Studio, Sony Vegas Movie Studio or Premiere Elements then Sandy Bridge is a very good choice for you.
* We are going to keep watching Sandy Bridge and the newest chipset, if it meets our expectations, we will begin our DIY9 build around it. That said, I really want to see a Sandy Bridge motherboard with integrated Thunderbolt!
We’ve updated our DIY artcle to now include a Sandy bridge build. See the new matrix at the end.
