As a longtime FinalCut user who used the whole Apple suite, I wanted to buy Premiere Pro and take advantage of the discount offered to Apple users who switched.

However, if I am editing in Hamburg, Germany or Vienna, Austria I cannot get the English language version I want for my MacPro by online purchase without paying an OBSCENELY RAPACIOUS PRICE and cannot get the USA version of the Creative Suite 5.5 Production Pro.

I am a USA citizen and work on the Apple platform but have the last Apple Suite installed on a MacPro system that I use a lot while in Vienna.

So now I am in Dallas and trying to PURCHASE the Adobe Premiere Pro Suite before Oct 31 online. However, Adobe makes this impossible anyway that I try it, even when I call the 800 Customer service and talk to a live sales rep.

The way Adobe is so “anal” about tying together everything necessary to simply buy the software that one needs for a project works against me.

The Master Card in my name is issued from Lufthansa in Europe. It was issued so that I can bill all project purchases on one card for tracking and corporate accounting purposes. I can travel around the world and use this card anytime, including for purchasing software online. No problem and plenty of credit line.

But even with a Customer Service rep on the phone, as I sit here in Dallas, willing to try putting the purchase through now I am kicked out by Adobe’s verification system because my Adobe Account address does not match the credit card “home address” even though the credit card is in my name and I have all the needed security information.

If I set up my Adobe Account to match the Master Card assigned address for me in Vienna (because I work there so frequently for a big corporate account) then Adobe will not allow me to buy US software online at US prices.

By just switching my Adobe Account to Austria so that I can put in a physical address that matches the Master Card I now must pay the equivalent of $3508 before taxes for the suite that costs one-half that if I am signed in with my USA account!

And Adobe has this international thing all screwed up! We now fly over international borders and work all over the world, Adobe.

I need to use a European issued credit card for this account but Adobe rips us off by charging TWICE the USA pricing.

But when I am here in the USA they do not accept a perfectly valid Master Card because my Account for the USA does not have a “home address” that matches the credit card I must use for the purchase.

I am eligible to buy at the USA price because I am based in Texas but Adobe has utterly no means to allow me to buy at fair USA pricing if I use a valid Master Card issued from Europe.

Also, what is with the INSTALL HELPER??

If I COULD get a download onto my Macbook Pro here in Dallas I am SURE Adobe is going to veto me getting this onto the MacPRO workstation I use in Vienna.

I just want software, I don’t want an INSTALLATION that does not allow me to download the dmg and hold on to it until I install it for the first time on the BIG Machine I will be using in Vienna.

Any Adobe reps have some advice?

What about buying from a 3rd party like VideoGuys, or B&H. Can’t they help.

    Just a thought.

    Hi David,

I won’t try and justify this, other than to say that I know it’s a complicated issue for Adobe. In the end, we try our very best to provide the right options for all of our potential customers, but you’re proof that it’s not perfect.

As someone suggested, call videoguys.com. THey’re in my patch (New York) and be sure to tell them Dennis sent you. If you have a problem, ask for Gary or Rich. If they have a problem, they have my number and they should call me. My guess is that they won’t have any problems.

Post here as well if you don’t get what you need. My apologies and I hope we can get you set up.

Thank you Dennis and Darren for this suggestion.

I will call Videoguys on Tuesday morning from Dallas and see what I can come up with.

I have been reading about Premiere Pro for months — one of the reasons I want to try it is to use the 64 bit processing engine which I know Apple will never get around to supporting for professional editing.

I will report back on my dealing with Videoguys.

Videoguys.com can do it! Give us a call 800 323-2325 and we’ll get you the software you need.

We run into issues like this with many of our vendors. All it takes is a little extra effort and creativity to make it work.

Adobe has to manage a huge international sales channel. They need to put in place policies and procedures that may not always make sense to the individual customers. These rules aren’t put in place to punish you, but to keep a worldwide sales channel functioning as efficiently as possible.

Give us a call, we’ll take care of you.

And in the unlikely event of that not working then I just know that https://www.toolfarm.com/ works very well.

Okay, so far, so good. I talked to Rich, I think it was Rich, and Barbara.

The plan is to ship the discs to me at my hotel in Dallas by tomorrow before noon.

The credit card went through and Barbara, their Gal Friday for Orders, gave me all the details.

We didn’t talk about a 5% discount for COW members, but, the price was good.

It was definitely because of this Forum that I found, hopefully, the solution to my problem.

I will report back when I have the software in hand tomorrow.

I head back to Vienna on Thursday, so this is in the nick of time.

Brian, thanks for the Toolfarm link. I will definitely be looking at them for Premiere compatible plugins. Thanks for the reference!

At 9:15 am my Adobe CS5 Creative Suite Production Premium arrived in Dallas, shipped by the Videoguys in Glen Cove, NY. At a great price. Tomorrow morning I head for the airport and on to check this out on the MacPro station in Vienna, Austria. Thanks Barbara, Gary, Rich!

    Thanks to you, Dennis Radeke.
    Thank you also, Darren Kelly.

I owe it to the Forum!

I will be back for more “stuff” from the Videoguys and will check out toolfarm.com !

I’m just seeing this thread for the first time, so excuse me if my comment is a bit ‘after the event’.

I think you are partially missing the point here Dennis – Adobe Guy. The very reason this happened in the first place is because Adobe rip off the rest of the world. He was trying to get the software in the USA because you wanted to double the cost for European customers.

I’m an owner of CS5 Premier and Light Room 3. I’ve been a paid up Adobe customer for years but every time a new version of your software comes out I have to pay a premium to download it from my nearest server (Australia). Why? It’s the same software, in the same language, there is no localisation. This is why people will go to extraordinary lengths to try and purchase from the USA server.

A quick example using your newest product – LR4. It’s USD149 on the Adobe.com USA store. Currently the exchange rate with Australia is almost 1:1 therefore you’d expect LR4 to cost AU149. But for some reason Adobe want me to pay AU219!

Can you explain the cost increase please? If there is a valid reason I’ll stop my complaining. I have a feeling that there isn’t though, and that I’ll either get some stock reply that doesn’t answer the question or no answer at all…
