[Jeff Kirkland] “By default, a compound clip takes on the properties of the first clip you add so if you drop in a clip with the right dimensions, you should be set to go”
Jeff
FCP has always rejected frame size rasters and frame rates that did not conform to SMPTE for vid output, in my experience it has not changed in FCPX.
This user is trying to do a mulit screen layout ( a guess ) and the limit as always been those fixed rasters.

[Julie Turner] “I’m not seeing an option to create a custom-sized sequence.”
Nope, not possible at this time.
Use AfterEffects.

Hey Keith and JG.
One of the issue retaining DF timecode has to do with the tools that we bounce signals off of in space and as long as we are still using Satellites over a terrestrial IP distribution we are going to be stuck with some of these issues.
The vast majority of broadcast satellites are older than your car, ancient the area we are discussing here and most of them launched before the turn of the millennial calendar in 2000. How many of you are cutting 4k on a Quadra 900?As distribution moves to IP based, which it will almost have to to do for the 4K and 8K packets, this should no longer be an issue. I hope.

[Kris Merkel] “You will need a breakout cable for analog audio input into the iO XT”
Kris, no analog input at all, that multi-pin connector on the back is for analog output only.
you would need an standalone audio embedder for the SDI stream or just use a camera as the embedder for the external recordings, which is why I asked for more info.

Jessica,
help us out, explain what you are trying to do? Do you really need to record live audio into the IoXT separately from a camera ?

Tyler,
not sure if that is possible via the Python API’s but should be accessible via the latest version of the documentation here

[Julik Tarkhanov] “I got no tri-level sync unfortunately, but the deck should sync off the input just fine. I have an older MBP with a single TB port, so my storage is daisy-chained via the Io box.”
Julik
that would not be any Sony deck I have ever used, especially certain SR decks (SRW1 is the only one that will accept input only for sync)
I am not sure whether you are discussing Stereoscopic output as DUAL STREAM
or as a 444 signal which is DUAL LINK and you do not say which app specifically that you are trying to deliver content from.I would try changing the device order, I always find that when connect the storage to the computer then the Display device the pass through tends to be more stable. Hang the IoXT at the end of the chain and see if that helps.

And this is a stepping stone for me, so a little grace is always appreciated 🙂
“Lincoln,
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the very first ProRes Alexa in Jun 2010 and I am known for my workflow knowledge too.I was really serious, if you want to know what to deliver, ask the guy you are delivering too.
UNLESS the DIT is building the entire workflow ( as I would ).
If that is the case, and the DIT is covering the camera to delivery workflow, he should be telling you why you should be using Resolve prior to your edit and offer a fuller explanation of what is expected . ( my guess would be for creating proper viewing LUTs that FCP7 cannot handle)
SO here are some questions:
are they shooting PR444?
1080 or 2K
Frame rate ( speed changes or Highspeed)
What format / codec/ content are you delivering to the colorist and how are you delivering it?What machine are you editing on?
Understand the PR444 content will not play in Realtime over FW/USB
The original content should only take up 25% of the available storage you are using.IF your DIT is good, he should have asked and answered all of these questions.

Sounds a little backwards to me ( and I am a union DIT)
Why not ask the colorist what they would like you to do rather than a group of people that do not know or understand your project ( me included )
first question is always What is my deliverable?
