=)
I was just editing a clip where the luma channel suddenly peaks well above 100 IRE, and right when it came on the hell-noise came in full-force, then disappeared as soon as the clip ended.
Repeat several times, and it’s consistent! The weirdest part is that the noise came through my speakers, even when I had the OS volume down to zero.
That tells me one thing: it’s the video signal itself that’s creating the noise.
I added the “extremely conservative” setting on the Broadcast Safe filter and voila, the noise stopped happening.
I don’t know if this covers all cases, but it certainly is fascinating.

Indeed. Here is a thread about the broken “close gap” feature when clips have differing numbers of audio tracks: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1080723

Well, I don’t think it’s possible to update 7.0.2 from the ground up. I did install 7.0 clean, then updated to 7.0.1 then 7.0.2. I didn’t have any such issues until this recent Pro Apps update.

True, it’s within the range of possibility and corporate logic, but given the release cycle of FCS (12-24 months), it’s unlikely. Again, I’d really like major update to Color.

April 13, 2010 at 1:05 am in reply to: How to burn an HDV 1080i60 project on DVD? Confused about interlacing and frame rateMight I add that I commiserate. 60i footage looks particularly awful when directly output to DVD from FCP/Compressor. One workaround that often works (depending on your camera) is to print to tape at 1080/60i, then use the in-camera downconvert to SD to import again from that tape. The result often looks far superior than just monkeying around in Final Cut, but it depends on which camera you’re using and how sophisticated the downconvert method is.
Good luck!

Yeah, FCS3 just barely came out, and goodness knows that the bugs are still being worked through (FCP 7.0.2. update crippled the app….)
It sure would be nice to get a Color UI facelift, though.

I’ve had the exact same problem since the 7.02 update. Totally useless, now.
Thank you for the specific information, Frank! It’s good to know what’s behind it. Now PLEASE Apple, get us an update soon!

Today, when the hell-noise came, and it lasted abnormally long (3-4 seconds) there were hints of other audio tracks coming through. I haven’t needed to render the audio in this project (my source audio is all 48 KHz, 16 bit), but I wonder if it has to do with the way FCP is handling audio render files? Another thought is that the distortion comes from simultaneously playing all of the audio in the project file, or something like that.
