  • FCP 7.0.2 is broken?

Posted by Garrett Gibbons on April 13, 2010 at 1:17 am

I’ve been having the well-commented-on problem with ctrl-G (close gap) that seems to have been broken with this latest update to FCP 7.0.2, but I’m also having a major problem with audio that I’m not seeing elsewhere.

When an AIFF file is in the timeline, the app will freeze as soon as I hit play. This has happened in several different projects since 7.0.2 was updated. Occasionally, I have restarted the computer and the problem has good away for a few minutes, only to return without any noticeable change in conditions. I can scrub through the footage and the audio plays and there are no problems.

    Has anyone else seen this?

Did you update to FCS3 over the top of FCS2, or did you you do a fresh install from the ground up?

If it’s the former, then I’m not surprised by any issues, and neither should you. If it was a clean install then that’s another matter.

Well, I don’t think it’s possible to update 7.0.2 from the ground up. I did install 7.0 clean, then updated to 7.0.1 then 7.0.2. I didn’t have any such issues until this recent Pro Apps update.

Okay, you passed the test Garret.

You’re one of very few people reporting problems who actually have done a clean install. It does kinda point to a possible issue with 7.0.2, though I must say, there hasn’t been much complaining here.

Indeed. Here is a thread about the broken “close gap” feature when clips have differing numbers of audio tracks: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1080723

Having the exact same problem. Will only close the first gap in the timeline, then every following gap. It won’t close the gap at the playhead with the shortcut or with a right click command. Just happened after the ProApps / 7.0.2 update. It does seem to correct problem if you eliminate any multi-track audio before the gap (e.g. only 2 layers of audio). Any more news on this? I use close gap religiously — this is beyond annoying…

Ever heard the phrase… “Fix one, break two.”

This seems to be the case every time there is an update to ANY software package.

The lesson here… Clone your OS drive before applying ANY updates, so that you can revert back to a safe version if problems arise.

    I’m have a problem with 7.0.2 now.
When putting titles over a multi-cam edit the titles keep resizing themselves when moving from camera to camera. If i “mute” the video track, the titles stay at the correct size.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I’ve searched but found nothing.

The client is coming in 20 minutes…

How i wish I’d backed up the system!

    Cheers.
