    FCP offers full screen playback, so you should get a pretty good idea what your pictures have come out like.

    1 Drop your first effect onto the video clip
    2. In segment mode, double click on the video clip and it will generate an extra copy of that clip above it. You can add a new effect to this new clip.
    3. Double click on this new clip to generate another copy etc.
    4. Double click the original clip at the bottom to close the new clips down. The extra effects are hidden or “nested”

    Does your camera allow audio passthrough? Not all of them do.

    Our experience with lightweight cameras is to use the “push auto” to get focus. Used intelligently it is sharper than you can usually manage by eye and a lot quicker. For an interview shot, just tilt down slightly so it can’t see the background and push for about 2 seconds. I don’t know how well the HPX170 holds focus through a zoom. backfocus can be a problem on small cameras.
