Use MacBook Pro as LCD monitor for HPX170 ?
Posted by Jack Nastowski on January 6, 2009 at 4:48 pmI was wondering if anyone knows of a way to use a MacBook Pro as an LCD monitor for an HPX170.
I’d like to use it to get a better focus when I do interviews. It would be great if I could avoid purchasing an LCD monitor.
Thanks,

You’d need a third party app like ScopeBox or On Location from the CS4 suite.

MBPro is a computer not a video monitor. I’ll give you credit for thinking.
There are some inexpensive do-it-yourself LCD monitor kits that you can connect via composite/component.

It could kind of become one if you have the right software and a firewire enbled camera, especially for focus as was mentioned by Jack. Won’t be the best monior, though.

January 8, 2009 at 3:38 pmOur experience with lightweight cameras is to use the “push auto” to get focus. Used intelligently it is sharper than you can usually manage by eye and a lot quicker. For an interview shot, just tilt down slightly so it can’t see the background and push for about 2 seconds. I don’t know how well the HPX170 holds focus through a zoom. backfocus can be a problem on small cameras.
