Not sure to be able to help, anyway your problem looks similar to the one I had a few weeks ago, with the .MOV files I was importing from my Canon EOS 7D.

Like you I also have the Platinum HD 10.0 version of Vegas.

3 tracks that you might investigate:

    1) Thanks to John Rofrano on this forum, I bought Cineform Neoscene to convert my .MOV files into .AVI files, and then the crashes disappeared when I imported the AVIs instead of the MOVs in my Vegas project. 7D’ .MOV files are known to be hard to handle by Vegas… maybe there is the same problem for your footages??

    2) Did you try to drag-and-drop your footages from the “project media” to the time line, rather than dragging them from the “explorer” tab ? In my case, it was helping…

    3) did you try to open the Windows task manager (“performance” tab) to see how your computer’s memory behave when you import your files in your project? Depending on the size of your footages, you might run out of memory, leading to long long response times from Vegas.

Hope this helps, and good luck for solving your issue…

  • Thanks John. I am actually happy – I created my own 8Mbits/sec profile and it seems to work fine.

  • Hmmm, indeed I have just tried the color corrector, and used the left pippet of the right wheel of it, it seems to give good results (as I have read in another thread — sorry, I should have done this before posting…)

So my problem might be fixed. However, should you have any better recommendation, please let me know !! 🙂

Can you give more details ?
    – which output format? whith which settings?
    – which format for your footages?

I had the same problem, and bought Cineform which fixed it.
However my .MOV are 30-second long maximum.

Did you try to convert them to AVI with ZoomBrowserEX, which is shipped with the 7D? I heard it was also doing a good job (and btw if it is true, then I am a bit sad because then I waste 100 euros in Cineform).

  • Thanks John.

Then I will create my own template with the bitrate I want to have and the resolution I want to have.

Still, I don’t understand how I managed to get 2 different “format profile” (High@L4.0 and Main@L3.1) while the option is not available in Vegas.
Anyway I don’t know what it stands for, so I can live without knowing. But in the event you could explain this as well, I would feel happier 🙂

Thanks again anyway, one more time I learnt something thanks to your answers!

July 8, 2010 at 8:41 pm in reply to: Platinum HD 10.0 : Low memory error

    Hi,

I have made several tests, but still get the same error:

    1) Audio : 56 Kbits/s; 24 000 Hz; Stereo; MP3
    Video : 25 fps; 1280 x 720 Progressif; DivX
    Pixel shape : 1,000

    2) Audio : 56 Kbits/s; 24 000 Hz; Stereo; MP3
    Video : 25 fps; 1280 x 720 High field first; DivX
    Pixel shape : 1,000

    3) Audio : 56 Kbits/s; 24 000 Hz; Stereo; MP3
    Video : 25 fps; 1280 x 720 Low field first; DivX
    Pixel shape : 1,000

I also tried to configure the DivX 6.9.2 Codec, to change the certification profile to 720HD.

In all cases the rendering fails after 1 or 2 seconds with the same error message as mentioned in my previous post.

    Would you have any suggestion?

Indeed, I am not sure at all the my DivX codec is the right one. How could I check this? Which one do you use?

    Thanks in advance
    Frederic

    Hi again John

I tried to do what you say, but…

    1) I don’t know what is a “template”. I am working with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum HD 10.0, not Vegas Pro. Maybe the templates are available only with Pro ??

    2) I tried to render my project as follows (well, I translate the French messages to English as I can):

    – toolbar button “Make a movie”
    – record it on my hard drive
    – button “advanced rendering”
    – file type: Video for Windows (AVI)
    – button “Customize…”
    – image size: HDV 720 (1280×720)
    – Image freq. : 25,000 (PAL)
    – fields order : none
    – video format: “DivX 6.9.2 Codec (2 Logical CPUs)”. It seems to come from m4ng according to the properties…

But then, when I start the rendering, I got an error message:

“An error has occurred while creating multimedia file xxx.avi
An error has occurred while converting with a Codec.”

Any clue of the way to make a DivX successfully, not going through M2T ?

Maybe I am using a wrong codec, but I don’t know which one to use…

Thanks for any lights you might bring to me !! 🙂

    Hi John,

    thanks for this tip.
Indeed, the Sony support told me that Divx was not supported…

And as I was having crashes, I followed the recommendations of Sony.

But I will try again as you say and will let you know.

btw, one thing is not clear for me: where does the list of AVI formats come from? I guess it is installed codecs, right?
In this case, which Divx codec should I use?

    Thanks,
    Frédéric
