H.264 (Canon .mov) crashing Vegas 9.e Part 2
Ok. So I read the earlier threads about how Canon .mov H.264 files crash Vegas 8.x. I purposely bought Neoscene to convert my Canon .MOV files and now I find that I crash Vegas (not Windows) with large size .MOV files, regardless of conversion to .AVI or not. (both AVI and MOV versions of the same clip crash Vegas). It seems that I get about 4 or 5 clips into Vegas and the crash happens (repeatable).
AVCHD files render fine. Some smaller .mov have no problems.
Has anyone heard of a reasonable fix for this? I’m going to migrate them onto my Mac and try them on that “other editing tool”. Obviously I’ll be converting them there as well, but maybe Pro-res will handle them better. Oddly enough, my friend’s JVC drags and drops MOV files to FCP with no problem. Wonder if it’s something inherent in the files created on these new 7d and T2i? But they have been out there a while…Could be the new huge sensor size requires vastly more compression than the tiny (but expensive) sensors on the higher end JVC gear?
