Thanks for that advice, it’s cleared things up for me.
I didn’t really think of any of those things!

    Okay.
Thanks for making everything easy to understand and simple.
For now, i’m going to purchase AE and learn Blender alongside with it.

Thankyou for both of your indepth replies.

Walter, your first sentence just made clear what i was confused about. That helped me a lot.
When you mention about the ‘workflows’ being similar in your first sentence do you mean the workflow of going from a 3d app to a compositing app?

I have been working with the trial versions of Cinema4d and AE.

In your response to learning deeply about one specific area. The work i would like to do is logo animation. (i’m not sure if there’s a specific word to describe that type of work) Here’s a link to what i mean:

But also compositing onto footage that has come from a camera as well.
Exactly like in this music video, where computer generated material and camera footage is combined:

What you said about skills being learnt in one package is transferrable to others and i should worry about picking a specific package last makes sense, but i can’t seem to get it out of my mind.
What would be the best ‘package’ to get for what i would like to do in the future?

Also, to check up on what Motion Graphics really means. I have researched on wikipedia and other sources. From what i’ve gathered it’s a widely used term, but it means animated graphic designs with audio?

  • Okay. Unfortunately i don’t have FCP on my computer. I’ve heard of that codec but never knew it came from FCP.

Exporting as an image sequence seems a very good way to go, i’ve never thought of that before.

    Thanks for the info.

August 13, 2011 at 2:45 am in reply to: Convert Polygon objects to Spline?

    Aha, fixed.
Wasn’t that exact problem but similar. The spline created was created with the original polygon rotation settings, and it was rotated 90′ which made it flat when an extrudeNURBS was added to it.
    Silly mistake on my part.
    Thankyou for the help!

    Thankyou, that worked a charm.

I’m having trouble getting back to the shape of my original extruded spline though.

My old extruded spline was a basic oval shape extruded by ExtrudeNURRBS at about 20m.

When i select all the edges of one of the Caps polygons (the front side of my previous extruded spline), convert through ‘edges to spline’ and then re-extrude using extrudeNURBS by 20m i get a 3d-looking 2d image.
Here is a link of what i mean:
    https://img405.imageshack.us/img405/7066/screenshot20110812at251.png

(i panned the camera angle to show how it’s not 3d)

Could you please share some advice on what i have to do to get the spline to extrude just out into 3d space and not out and up like in the picture?
I hope that i make sense this time 🙂
