    Ouch! As Shane said……..
If you value your time you could spend a few bucks and automate this with Titan
    or Conformalizer

If I were in that situation I would probably wait until you have a DP on board, then discuss with them possible formats. Then I would rent. You will probably only need the camera for 4 weeks so would it really justify spending a large chunk of your budget on purchasing a high end camera along with all the accessories required. Unless you had a slate of 4 or 5 movies to shoot over the next year where you can amortize the cost, it would seem the money would be better spent on talent and production value.

[jmill0823] “my question is should we used wired or wireless…lapels or shotguns…do we need a mixer? should we record to the cameras or use a deck or something?”

I would suggest a combination of wired and wireless, lavs and shotguns. A mixer would be a good idea as well. You can record direct to one or two of the cameras BUT above all, you should hire an audio professional to monitor your audio. If budget doesn’t allow it, then I’d suggest going with one less camera. Do you really need 3 or 4 cameras on a boat? Will the visuals from 3 or 4 cameras be of any use if you dont have decent audio to go with them?

    You cant!
You can record 4 channels though. 2 with the XLR inputs and 2 will be recorded from the built in mic.

It sounds like a wrong setting in the FCP timeline.
Did you have to render the footage?
If the footage was indeed shot at 30pn and is being played back in a 23.98 timeline then it should be slo-mo not faster like keystone cops. To get that effect you would need to shoot at a slower frame rate than the playback rate.
Try creating a NEW sequence and change the settings to 29.97, then import one of the QT files to that timeline and see if it helps.
If not as Noah said you will need to get back to the MXF files and re-import with the correct settings.

In your import P2 window there is a selection for making the audio stereo pairs or independant mono channles.

August 3, 2007 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Connecting mic basic questions

    [kat.hayes]

    1. What type of “audio equipment” is “Line” intended for? Is this intended for a mixer?

    2. Is the on-board mic automatically disabled by switching to options other than INT (L) and INT (R)?

    3. Is a “phantom microphone” considered any external microphone that is not connected to a mixer?”

    1. Yes. OR any equipment that is capable of sending a line level signal.
    2. Not necessarilly. When switching inputs 1 & 2 to ext, the onboard mic will automatically record to channels 3 & 4 when shooting to P2. When shooting to tape it will be disabled.
    3. No. Phantom is a power source that is usually required by condensor microphones. If you connect a condensor mic directly to the camera it will need phantom power turned on to work. Dynamic mics connected directly to the camera do not need pahntom power.

Unless you really need this or feel obligated to this client, I would be inclined to hand her the original tapes and call it a day. Inform her that you have moved on and no longer do this type of work. You gave her ample time to supply the needed assets to edit the project.
