On page 20 of the manual it states. “The time code cannot be set when REGEN is set using a combination of menu items No.503 [TCG MODE] and No.505 [TCG REGEN].” So if you have the 503 setting as “auto” then REGEN is selected depending on the mode of operation in which case the factory default in menu 154 is #0001 “follow-on” recording mode or “auto back”. So if you set your menu 503 to Pre 0001, that should, in theory, allow you to reset the timecode. Just make sure to hold the reset button for a couple of seconds and then hit the set (rec) button after you punch in the new numbers.

One thing you need to consider is what type of drives are used in these set ups. Some people will argue that a drive is a drive and why pay $250 for a 250gig drive when you can buy one for 1/2 that price. Apart from mass production the other reason some companies can afford to sell at such low prices is the components used to build a drive. Cheap parts and cheap labor certainly dont add up to reliability in most cases. So if you build a Raid with cheap drives and cheap labor (i.e. yourself being inexperienced) will that add up to reliability? Who do you call when something goes wrong with your Raid and you have a deadline looming? Also would it be better or more reliable to have a hardware controlled Raid as opposed to a software controlled raid?

Is there anything to stop Terry from actually buying a camera to have in his store? I mean if panasonic canada is limited to the amount of free demo models they can send out, then it would make sense, if the small shop owner is concerned about his customer base, that he just purchase a camera to have in the store so people could check it out and then if they wanted to purchase the product they could order through him and if the demand is there, I’m sure panasonic would have no problem shipping enough cameras to fill such a demand.

Let me take a stab at this.
The DVCPro stream is actually measured in MegaBytes per second. FW400 is refering to MegaBits per second. Being that there are 8 bits to a Byte, FW400 would only support up to DVCPro50 (400 divided by 8 =50). -
You can not do HDV in FCP HD. You need version 5

OK! Switching to “non-controllable device” will not allow for timecode capture. Leave the capture device as Firewire NTSC. In the menu on the DSR-11 you need to set it to EE mode so the audio/video and timecode signals can “pass through” the deck to your NLE.

According to the FCP manual you can only capture 2 channels of audio at a time into FCP via firewire. Last week Walter explained to someone on here that you could capture more that 2 channels if the deck supported it, so maybe he can help out here. If it can indeed be done that is great, if not you will need to go into FCP audio/video settings, then click the capture presets tab and edit, or duplicate, the preset you are using. In the quicktime audio settings choose DV audio from the device pop up menu and select first 2 channels. Do a pass into FCP and then go back and select second 2 channels for the second pass. You will then have the 4 discrete tracks in FCP but you will have to link tracks 3 & 4 to the first pass of audio/video capture.

What is generating the timecode from your shoot? From what I can gather you have multiple cameras (what format? how many?) going to a switcher and you are trying to take the live mixed output to FCP. Does the switcher have an RS422 port? If you explain your complete set up and workflow then may be some people will be able to offer better help or at least point you in the rightt direction.
