  • HDV capture problems. Help! GOing down…THud!

    I’m trying to capture some HDV footage. I’ve done this a million times but now I’m having problems. We’ve been working in 8 bit uncompressed for several days now but I’ve used the easy set up to try to capture the HDV footage. I’m able to control the deck (HVRZ1U) via firewire. However when I click on the capture NOW button I get a notice that says “Waiting for data from device.” Then a popup appears that says “NO DATA FROM DEVICE – capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data from device. Check your connections and that the deck is playing.”

    Well, I’ve checked my connections a hundred times and I have control of the deck (FF rewind, play and etc.) just no capture. The deck is playing and everything seems to be set up correctly.

    I’ve been up all night and client needs a shot pulled off this reel and converted to QuickTime.

    THE deck is set up to output HDV

    Help please. Thanks.

    You can not do HDV in FCP HD. You need version 5

    Weirdness. That’s Sony deck, right? You can see video and hear audio and control the deck using the capture tool?

    I’ve seen that message before; I could control the deck, preview media, see video and hear audio. But when I tried to capture I got the “no data” message. I was trying to capture Panasonic DVCPro media from a Sony DVCam deck.

    <tin-foil hat on mode>
    How hard would it be to engineer some sort of “you’re not allowed to use this device with a competitor’s tape/codec/DRM” lockout function? Isn’t that what DRM and Trusted Computing and HDCP are all about? Knowing what Sony was prepared to do to their customers with root-kit installing DRM software on almost-Audio CDs ….

    I have the latest version of FCP. Purchased in October.

    Yep, I thought it was weird also. Maybe I’ll heck to see if preferences are trashed just to be sure that has nothing to do with anything.

    Just a thought…if youre not getting any signal at all suddenly…

    I had a firewire board go bad in my deck. You might want to verify that the deck is indeed sending FireWire out by connecting it to another deck or firewire camera and seeing if it is working properly (ie can you make a firewire deck to deck or camera dub?).

    Good Idea – yes I can do that.
