Unfortunately, many talented artists just don’t have the personality required to make interesting tutorials. My pet peeve (for this week, LOL) is the tutorial presenter that puts you to sleep before you get halfway through the tute (3D Fluff and, to some extent Maltannon, ..et al). I guess that’s why written tutorials exist, some folks actually recognize their own weaknesses. Let’s face it, back at school we all got better marks when the teacher presented the lessons in an interesting manner. Thank God for the Andrew Kramer’s and Aharon Rabinowitz’s of this world.

Personally, I’d try both the fade and the mask animation, then decide which I’d prefer. Depending on the look you’re after, one may be more suitable than the other.

[Steve Roberts] “I’d show the full height of the video in the Polaroid, but mask off the sides. When it flies toward camera, I’d fade up the sides that were cut off.”

Or maybe, animate the masks (on the sides) to reveal the full width of the video.

[Graham Quince] “sensible answer to my over-the-top rant, I just think it’s a good practice issue”

I don’t think your rant is over the top. Not only would it be good practice, it would demonstrate a certain level of quality control. Mismatched video sizes on the same DVD shows a total lack of quality control.

    Just my 2 cents.

Fair enough, I can understand how a tight deadline would make searching a less than ideal way to find the information you need. I’m glad Steve was able to point you in the right direction.

I must say though, that I’m amazed at the number of people who post here, looking for answers, while a deadline looms. Of course, we all have moments when time gets away on us.

Have you tried a difference key? Depending on whether or not your lighting is stable (not subject to variations), you might get a good key this way.

Otherwise, looks like a lot of rotoscope (manual) work.

[Rossrapture69] “Im sure that what I ask has been asked many ttimes before”

If you’re so sure it’s been asked before, perhaps a search will find your answers.

I would think that if this “Educational/Religious” organization didn’t specify these restrictions until after the shoot, it would be fair to expect them to be responsible for the cost of reshooting.
In the long run, it’d be quicker (possibly even cheaper) than trying to fix this in post.

All you need do is save in a format that allows “million colors +”. The checkerboard switch doesn’t affect alpha channel rendering (of output files).

Been asked plenty of times before. Try a search.
