Yup. Don’t feel alone.
I’m now running FCP5 on Panther.
PSD alpha has dissapeared. If I import a layered PSD and throw the sequence direcly on the timeline, There is alpha amongst the layers, but not for the overall sequence. Going into the PSD sequence and copy & paste the elements directly onto the timeline is my temp workaround. I have a friend who is complaining about PNGs too.

Even the opaque PSDs that were in my original Motion project that is nested in the FCP timeline goes all weird. Half the image is a smudge of the last line of pixels. Trying to re-render the Motion clip from FCP makes FCP quit unexpectedly… Woa?

For now I might need to revert to 4.5 until the bugspray is out. Luckily I saved my old projects before they were updated to 5.

Here we go.

Thanx to the help of AJA (including swopping out the card) we kept messing around until we arrived at a place were all the cables were disconnected from the Mac (Including the power source to the Apple Studio display). I reseated the card and all worked perfect.

AJA is now investigating a possible power leak from the Graphics card / monitor to the Kona 2 that buzzes up the firmware to never start its loading from scratch.

This sounds crazy, but after a week of frustration, and pain the problem was solved by disconnecting cables from the monitor.

FCP captures perfect. Test patterns are sweet and all is good in Kona 2 land for me now.
Hope my battlescars save someone else the pain!

Video source is a Varicam. Coming in from HD SDI

Monitor is a 525i LCD TV. Coming in from the Kona Analog YPbPr
I Have tested the Digi Out from the Kona running it through the Varicam’s EVERTZ downconverter to the 525 monitor and I get the exact same scramble. Input passthrough from the Kona works on the monitor so both these facts makes me believe the monitor is OK.

I feel your pain.
Have the same problem on a dual G5 2, 4Gig RAM. I have already swapped out cards but the problem is the same. Also, can’t even get color bars from the AJA Control Panel. I’m busy right now to get another G5 up to Os 10.3.8 so I can Install FCP HD to check the card in there. This is both weird and very unproductive with a deadline on my neck.

NB: Are you maybe running an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256M graphics card?

Will post another thread to the masters to see if they can help me out of tis one.
