Ah. I’ve been guessing so. ‘Cause I have not seen visible frame dupes in the renders with just the modified fps for main comp.

Running mismatched video frame elements vs just animated elements would be a different story. But then only to the mismatch of the video with the main comp’s framerate, correct?

Yup. No worries on the TV scan freq. This comp is going to a 60Hz computer screen for digi display.

thnx. Pulldown at render is good.

I’m not talking about pre-rendering comps at 24fps and then placing them in a 30fps comp. Just nested comps. So I guess the real question is this: In the render process, does AE actually pre-compile pre-comps to frames before interacting them with the main comp ? IF that’s the case it would then have to do a frame blend/pulldown when they mis-match for sure. Anyone out there know the mechanism for AE’s compiling?

    Thanks to Zax, problem solved.

Problem was I Used HighQ OpenGL renderer (which worked fine for one instance of my 3D object – but not for appearance at the end of my timeline). The reason I fiddled around with HQoGL in the first place was a seriously pixellated shadow. The culprit turned out the be a crazy light I used for effect on media prior the 3D entrance. with 110% strength & 100% shadow casting that was very close to my object – which overdrew the default 500×500 shadow buffer. I’m back on InvigRenderer and just Re-did that scene’s lights with more modest ones.
    All schweet now.

It’s great when guys create great products with great client service to back it up!
    Thanks, Zax!

OK. Just to get back to the real question here:

Traditionally, the approach for file storage for FCP would mean I’d like to keep project files (on one drive) and media files (on Raid scratch drives) separate. But in linking Motion & LiveType projects to the FCP timeline, does that not make them ‘media’ files now?

Anyone in the herd with an aswer to this one?

    Hi, E.

HD. Yes, FW800 backups is part of my workflow.

Sure. 3x & 4x is an option. But to figure out what will be best. I’m trying to figure out what the dynamic is for linking Motion, STP, LT projects into timeline.
    thnx!

OK. I guess it’s time then. Sorry, my baby-G and Kona2. It’s not just with AfterEffects CS3, now FCP too. You served me well… (This is an emotional moment for me).

I guess I will be even more emotional when the 8-core arrives at my door. + the bill for all the memory to make it sing with AE!

    Interesting.
What’s still strange to me is that even if it did render to the disc, (with Spacebar) my system plays back only about 15fps 720p24 in AE, but my raid delivers at least 245M/sec r-w ! (Enough for 1920p24 uncompressed!) So it must be doing something else other than just playing what was rendered once it runs over the rendered frames again.

Ha! That’s quite a good question. Coming from FCP-land that was just the natural key to press to get things to play in AE.

    Thanks, S.

I’m not in the habit of buying new stuff just cause its out there. But if more procs are the way things are going, I’ll probably make the investment now having to get a 2nd workstation anyhow. Thought I’d start with 4x1Gig + 4×512 RAM chips (appartently better to use 4 matched pair chips?). When the big one comes in I’ll upgrade adding 4x2Gig chips. Or should I re-consider my RAM strategy here?

Will the plugins for AE have to be changed to take advantage of 8c or is that handled by AE?

December 6, 2006 at 4:30 pm in reply to: resizing comp for HiRes output

OK> That’s not it either. Seems like if I go higher than 1/4 res on a 4000×2500 composition, the Zax-layer just turns black. Any advice?

Is there a limit to the size I can render out with Zaxwerks? or is that limit with my system?
