I was out at my Pops house tonight and I brought the footage on DVD from Compressor with a custom setting (full data rate) to view on the new 55 inch LED tube and it looked awesome. What is weird is that when I transfer the files with either the native setting or ProRes HQ the data rate is still the same.

BTW-Speanking of which my new studio setup is a new dual 8 core 2.26 mac, 12GB RAM 512MB ATI card, 4GB internal storage, 3GB external RAID, AJA LoLA, etc, etc.

I just spoke to my friend, he had clips with the same DVCPROHD 720 clips. When he hit analyze clip it said medium quality but in analyze movie it said most quality. We then compared data rates and they were exactly the same. (5619k/sec 234k/frame) I re ingested the P2 files using the ProResHQ codec and it still says the same DVCPRO HD Med Qual etc. codec in analyze clip/movie. I cannot reshoot any of the material and I am getting hella nervous.

Everybody has a opinion here but here is what I did. I bought the new new dual 2.26 with the ATI card and 12GB RAM. I purchased it from Tekserve on 23rd and 7th, I highly reccomend them, look them up. Also I had them put in a extra FW card so the deck and drives would be on 2 different buses. I threw 3.5TB of internal storage in there also, I noticed that even with G-Raids, having a external hooked up even when not using it slows down the Mac, so go internal if you can. I work with uncompressed DVCPRO 50HD and the monster doesn’t even blink, I tried to make cry by having a motion, FCP and Compressor export on different drives, it maxxed out 8GB RAM in activity monitor. The new Macs might have slower speeds but they are actually faster, 16 cores man. FCP7 and Avid Media Composer load/work like a champ, render times are almost non existent. It ingests P2 media like a champ. Color opens up my proj files likkity split. The whole deal without the extra drives it was around $3950. It was a extra $1K for the 2.66 model, I don’t regret not buying it, I’m really happy with my purchase decision. Also, good luck getting a real answer from anyone at the Mac store, they are more interested in selling iPods and iPhones.

The ATI is superior for Color?

I suppose it IS a false rumor, I was told that from a EX boss who has no idea. I’m trying not to break the $6K price point. Moreover, would a Blackmagic Studio card work nicely with it on a internal RAID? I’m not going to put in a new SCSI card in.
    Thanks for the input.

It is the tapes although the deck has a few hours on it, do they even make the DSR-11 anymore?

Thanks will, I only use Panasonic tapes, these are the Red Sony tapes from my client, thus the problem. You are spot on with the diagnosis.
