Tape error messages
Posted by Forrest Love on July 18, 2009 at 4:06 pmI continue to get source/tape error messages. There are no TC breaks, I’ve cleaned my deck heads, set capture to non controllable device, my setting are set to continue across tc breaks etc. Is there any answer to this?
Thanks,

July 18, 2009 at 6:00 pmHow many hours on your heads? What about the camera? It could be heads, or even an alignment problem.

July 20, 2009 at 5:42 amHi Forest
I have had similar issues. It happened on two occasions and I haver pinpointed it to two factors. In one case it was bad tape. In recent months I have had very VERY bad experiences with the Black and Red Sony DV tapes. The quality has been dwindling. The reason I pinpointed it to the tapes is that it happened on multiple tapes filmed on multiple cams – Including a Sony DSR 300 – JVC 101 and DVX200 Panasonic.
The second occurance I had was after switching tapes a head problem with a PD170.
The way I resoMy company film sport events for broadcast on a national basis so we receive tapes from all types of cams. A few months ago we had the same problem with a tape from an onboard camera used in auto race. Tape would play for a min or so and then stop saying – an error has been encountered capuring the footage from tape –etc etc-
The only way that we resolved the issue was to copy the tape from camera to DSR30 deck. Problem solved
Hope that Helps

July 21, 2009 at 4:35 amThanks will, I only use Panasonic tapes, these are the Red Sony tapes from my client, thus the problem. You are spot on with the diagnosis.
