I´ve used ClipWrap, and besides the strange startup screen it worked nicely for me. Is it possible for you to post a short clip from your camera somewhere so that I can download it and have a look at it? Not sure why it does not work on your end. What framerate/resolution did you shoot in? What codec did you convert to?

For testing I would stick with the internal GPU. I guess Boris RED will not get hardware support from the card, but should run in software mode anyway. Media 100 does not really need GPU acceleration. You also could use the internal drives for (compressed) HD material, if you are e.g. using the ProRes or DVCProHD codec.
Personally I would initially try to put the Kona and the Atto card in there to see how it works. If you feel that you need to get another GPU, try running your video from the internal drives. -
What is your timeline setting? What codec are your source files in? Have you tried exporting to QuickTime first (e.g. to ProRes) and then to export from QuickTime player?

I´ve never tried it on MacOSX Server, but I don´t see why it should not work. The CPUs are pretty powerful, so you will get good realtime performance. Should be a great system.

Yes, Snow Leopard is at QuickTime 7.6.3 currently, while Leopard is at 7.6.4. This should not be an issue.
Regarding the export problem with audio, I will look into it as soon as I am in the office.
Regarding the default opening application: unfortunately Apple removed the type/creator code from Snow Leopard. Under Leopard (and under more or less all previous MacOS versions) you specified which app created a file, and which app should be used to open it by default. This is now gone, and the OS relies (more or less) on the file extension to see which app should be used. So if you have a .mov file, you cannot say anymore that this file should be opened with QuickTime player by default, while another .mov file should be opened with let´s say Media 100. They now will all open with the same application. And it seems like your default app for .mov files is Soundtrack; not sure why. -

You will be surprised how much more realtime you get on a new system. One of our editors had to go back to Media 100 i on a recent job, and although he got through it he was surprised how slow everything was under Media 100 i.
All effects you mention up there are still realtime, even on HD material, but they are processed on the CPU and not on the hardware board. Plus, everything else you need to render is dramatically faster due to the fact that the P6000 compression/decompression chip is a real bottleneck these days. When you e.g. render a BorisFX in Media 100 i, each frame goes through this decompression/compression, which takes close to a second per frame on P6000 (without anything being rendered). On the new systems you don´t have that limitation anymore, so rendering is dramatically faster.
If you have a relatively new computer somewhere, even a MacBook Pro, download the demo version of Media 100 Suite, move some timeline with some footage over to it, e.g. via a FireWire drive and give it a quick try. You will be surprised… -

I read somewhere that G5 wont be able to use ProRez that is why I moved to an Intel Mac. “If you want to use the latest Media 100 version (Suite 1.5), you are good to go with the latest of everything (Kona driver 7.5, latest QuickTime on 10.5.8 or 10.6.2, depending on which OS you want to use). ProRes does work on PPC (at least in Media 100 – not so well in FCP), but of course it takes some CPU power for decoding. Obviously better on Intel Macs.

What version are you using? 13.0.4? Maybe you should try the 13.0.5 update. Not sure if it is fixed there or not, though. But it definitely works in Suite 1.5.
One thing you could try, though, is change the zoom level of your timeline. I remember a bug with keyframes on the bus tracks related to different zoom levels. -

Hmmm, works for me in the timeline. In the audio mixer, there should be a “frame” button on each bus track. If you enable that you should also create nodes when dragging the slider in the audio mixer.

Do you want to downconvert your footage? Or reacquire? Either simply drag your HD footage in a SD timeline to downconvert, or reacquire the clips while holding “CTRL and Shift” into your new format of choice.
