That´s a strange error message. I would suggest re-installing Media 100, in case you haven’t tried that. This should be pretty painless, so at least it is worth a try.

Since the 60D records H.264, I guess the import speed is pretty normal. If you have clips in a natively supported codec like ProRes they would import much quicker, of course, but H.264 clips need to be converted to whatever codec you have set as your render codec.

This means that either there is a problem “talking” to the hardware, or a software issue. If you have an installer of your version, you could try to reinstall the software. Or as far as I remember, there was a hardware test application included with the Media 100 installation. Try running the hardware test to see if there is an issue with your board.

If your board is okay and you don´t have an installer for your software version, maybe the Boris guys can help; though I am not sure how far back their software archive is going.

Since this is more a problem of Boris Red than Media 100, you probably would want to get in touch with Boris support, or post a question in the Boris forum.

Can you type Arabic in e.g. TextEdit or any other app (Pages, MS Word,…)? I guess there should be many apps these days that support Arabic typing, and from there you should be able to copy/paste the text to Red for titles.

I guess the problem is that there were some changes in the QuickTime export path, partly caused by Apple and partly caused by Media 100. What you probably should do is to scale your exported 16:9 SD stills to 1024*768 for PAL resolution. You can do that in nearly every image editing tool, including Apples system-included preview.app (under Tools->Size Correction)

[Jaeson Koszarsky] “In the monitor window, I used to have a button in the upper right that would let me turn safe title guides on/off. I just noticed that it’s not there now. Maybe something related to switching over to Lion? Is there somewhere else that I can turn the guide feature on/off?”

Yeah, Apple got rid of the bubbles in the upper right hand corners of the windows. You can still show/hide the window Toolbars via the View Menu->Show Toolbars/Hide Toolbars or with the keyboard shortcut CMD-Option-T

  • Strange; we use AE CS5.5 with the Media 100 plugin all the time.

Maybe you should manually delete the AE Plugin and reinstall it. There are some places you should look, maybe there is an older version somewhere.

The “official” location where it should be is YourStartupDrive->Library->Application Support->Adobe->Common->PlugIns->CS5.5->MediaCore

But maybe you have an older version installed in YourStartupDrive->Applications->Adobe AfterEffects->Plug-Ins and then in either “Format” or “Effects”. Or do a search for the plugin on your startup drive.

Can you post some details about your system? Like OS version, driver version (Aja or whatever hardware you are using), QuickTime version, what kind of drives you use, board placement in case you use a video board. Plus, could you have a look into your Library->QuickTime folder to see if there are any Codecs installed that you don´t recognize or that are unusual?
