[BilCo5] “Clarification about the AE rendering codecs with media 100. The m100 codec does not support an alpha channel. If you want to key art or video animations from the graphics channels into the main video channels, it has to be rendered in animation codec selecting millions of colors plus.”

    That

[Jim Wigler] “Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE spending money on MEDIA 100 & post production “stuff;” but why should I buy this? “

E.g. for editing “on the road” on a PowerBook, or as a cheap additional system to your existing Media 100 i or HD system. It will render and work much faster than Media 100 i due to its removal of the hardware codec.

[mfm000] “What sort of FC solutions?”

Additionally to an XServe RAID we have an InforTrend SATA->FC chassis which is cheaper, faster and has better support.

[mfm000] “And, will I be able to share media between M100 HD and SW systems?”

If you have a SAN, yes, you will be able to share Media files between sw, HD and Media 100 i like we do it today. We use FibreJet from commandsoft.com as a very robust and easy to setup and maintain SAN controller software. Great product with great support.

[Alex] “I’ve just checked – it’s all Pal (which is correct, I’m working in Pal). The source QT files are PAL and Compressor is working in PAL too.”

Are you using 720*576 media? Creating DVDs from 768 material is tricky.

Have you read the Media 100 explanation regarding DVDSP here? It is not updated to the newest version of DVDSP, but the part about the cropping is still valid for NTSC.

Yes, no problems with that. But today there are cheaper FC solutions with better support than Apple XServe RAID

512 MB are definitely not enough RAM. You should at least have 1GB to work reliably.
What kind of SCSI card do you have? Do you use the newest firmware for the SCSI card? What OS are you using? What drives? How do you stripe them? Where are your cards (SCSI and Media 100) placed in the G4? Are they placed according to the CPG?

V8.01 does not run on Panther or Tiger. If you have a V8.01 encryption code you can download and install V8.1.1 for free, which should run without problems on OSX 10.2.x. It is not 100% compatible to 10.3.x, though. Only V8.2 and higher does run without problems on 10.3.x
