Well, after effects’ layers will always be flat, so even if you use a texture that fakes the lighting of the padded surface, at a steep enough angle, the illusion will always break.

If you can’t live with that, you’ll have to resort to a true 3d program, or use Invigorator to model a 3d environment within After Effects.

  • You can also copy-paste the new movie over or behind your existing render in Quicktime Player if you have Pro,

this way, you can even mix different codecs if you want.

Be sure to save the new version as a self-contained movie

I use the editing facilities of Quicktime Pro all the time, you can even do compositing of multiple layers that have alpha’s etc.

Hi the solution is quite simple,

you need a custom ease as follows:
(Just Alt-double-click on the keyframes and enter these values)

Ougoing Velocity on the first keyframe: 1sec / sec influence 33.33%
Incoming Velocity on the second keyframe: 1sec / sec influence 33.33%

If you use “easy ease”, it will slow down to 0sec/sec, then suddenly start again at 1sec/sec, that’s the jump you see.

you can try lower influence percentages, but stick with these velocity values.

    Check the manual:

You can import 3D channel imagefiles saved in RLA, RPF, Softimage PIC/ZPIC, and ElectricImage EI/EIZ
    formats.

If you use seperate tga streams, you can fake most effects using Compound Blur for focus, or trackmattes for fog.

  • I’ve read that Motion 2 projects are actually also cleverly disguised quicktime-movies, just like .qtz (Quartz composer files)

so you should be able to import the motion-project via “all files”, be sure to choose quicktime movie as type.

But you won’t be able to edit the separate layers etc. in AE

  • Great suggestion by Spaceman,

but you might get the same problem, it probably has to do with differing sizes of your different layers.
The Anchorpoints will be somewhere else, and that causes the shift.

Also, it’s not evident to copy position or rotations from a parented layer to a different layer, because the actual keyframed value doesn’t describe exactly where the layer is, because it is in relation to the parent..

    8-P Hope that’s clear.

Anyway, use Spaceman’s suggestion, then move the anchorpoint around untill it fits again.

the footage is being de-interlaced for display in AE, if your footage wasn’t rendered interlaced, you can prevent that from happening by going into Interpret footage and ignoring the seperate fields option.
Either way, if it is interlaced: when you render back out to interlaced, the quality will be there, don’t worry.

The Red-blue symbol in the Quicktime icon indicates that AE knows that this Movie is actually a rendered comp from an aep. project file, there’s some metadata stored in the qt that enables you to replace the movie with the comp should you choose to do so.
