Are your position keyframes _exactly_ 15180 pixels apart and 3036 frames ?
perhaps nudging the last keyframe just one frame is the cure.

What framerate are you working at ?

It’s quite easy to set up on one machine, a bit more difficult if you want it to run across your entire network.
You will have to create your own version of a watch-folder and

All the info can be found by opening terminal and running:

    “/Applications/Adobe\ After\ Effects\ 7.0/aerender”
(just drag the Unix executable file from the finder to a terminal window and it will insert the complete path for you instead of typing it)

This will spit out a help-file on how to invoke the Terminal Renderer.

    Not sure what you mean…

if you mean opening an after effects comp that consists of only stills and/or generated elements (flares, fractal noises, keyframed stills or vector art etc.) and changing it’s composition settings from PAL 25 to NTSC 30:
Yes you will get pristine quality.

But as soon as you’re re-rendering quicktimes or Avis that have allready been rendered in one format to another: you’re losing quality.

The only minor advantage *might* be that a fully computer-generated movie may have less noise and thus less encoding artefacts that don’t get in the way of interpretting the actual detail in the movie. But that’s a stretch I think.

Aren’t Algolith the plugins you can “rent” for a few days if you only have a few conversions to do ?
I agree they’re great, though with a bit of a cryptic interface, if memory serves.

I think it was less than $ 70 to license it for a week.

    look them up.

While it’s true that the green channel is usually closest to the Lumininance channel of YUV encoding, if you really want just the Grayscale information, without any interference by poor colour encoding use this:

    Channel Combiner
    From: Luminance
    To: Lightness Only

( There’s also a YUV to RGB converter in there that you can follow with a Channel Mixer to extract the Red Channel afterwards, but it limits grey values from 16-235 )

I prefer using the channel mixer, it might not ensure the most grain-free result, but it gives a lot of creative freedom.
I usually go for lots of red, because it brightens and evens out skin-tones

Perhaps Draft 3d is on ?
I believe that also cancels the DOF effect.

Using the Channel Mixer plugin set to “Monochrome”, you can define how much of each colour-channel gets mixed in the final grey.
Like Andrew said, this usually gives the best result.

Just for the hell of it, I decided to make the basis for a padded wall texture in AE:

    here’s the project-file:
