  • Thank you, John.

I also figured out that you can just search for “Unused” in the Project panel in order to find unused footage.

    Hello Tomas,
I did this manually, and it didn’t take longer than an hours or so.
However, if anyone in the future needs an expression for something like this, I will still answer your questions:

    (1) They are scaled due to different resolutions (they are scaled using “Fit To Comp Height”).
    (2) They are all JPG or PNG-files.
    (3) Anchor points are not changed: they are all centered.

    Thank you for your help!

Wow! This really worked, thank you! How did you come up with this? I didn’t know the Channel Blur effect blurred things in such a rounded fashion?!

Thank you! “Minimax” works the best (since Simple Choker unfortunately also rounds the corners when it shrinks the matte).

Thank you! I had completely forgotten about that Blur Focal Distance-setting…

  • Thank you Cassius, yes – I’ve considered Reel Smart Motion Blur since I’m aware that it’s a solution to this problem.

However, to be honest with you – I believe that Adobe should just acquire RSMB (from RE-Vision) and Lenscare (from frischluft.com) since Pixel Motion Blur and Camera Lens Blur, After Effects’ built-in equivalents, are not that great and also VERY slow in comparison. Having better motion blur and lens blur effects would really make After Effects more appealing for compositors that work a lot with 3D. And yes – I know that Adobe just can’t go around and acquire plugins left and right, this is just wishful thinking…

  • Ok, so for anyone who’s having the same problem, here’s how I managed to solve it: apply a Fast Box Blur (Blur Radius = 10), a Levels-effect (Input Black = 120), followed by another Levels-effect (Input Black = 75) to the Depth Pass-layer.

Fast Box Blur: Softens and expands the edges in the Depth Pass.
Levels (1): Makes the object that’s supposed to be in focus black in the Depth Pass.
Levels (2): Expands the black edges in the Depth Pass which gets rid of the fringe.
