Hey, what I would do and what worked for me most of the times:

    1. Use Quicktime 7 (I would use Squared 5 – MPEG Streamclip) to convert the Mpeg4 to Uncompress 10bit
    2. Put that giant into Compressor and use that to convert it to propper Mpeg2 (m2v and ac3) for authoring
    3. DVD SP

This is what I do. Maby someone will tell you you can skip the step 1. but this works for me every time 🙂

And watch out! Sometime I got few white frames at the beginning and at the end of the film. Just get rid of them with QT 🙂

    GL

January 17, 2012 at 5:29 pm in reply to: DVD Studio Pro: Burn Vs. Build/Format

What I do and consider to be the best way is:
    1. Buld project
1a. Test it one more in DVD player
    2. Format project (burn it via DVDSP)
2a. I always turn off losless linking and I never had any error burning it.

DO NOT USE Build&Format option. Just dont 😉

But many guys will tell you (and I agree with them) they Build it in DVDSP and than use Toaster titanium. Hovere some will tell you they always use 4x or 8x no matter what is the DVD default speed and they will say they never had any problem. And some will argue DVD is supposed to be burned on its maximum speed 😉

So choose. But as for me DVD-R (never +R) Butild, Test, Format (no losless linking) I have not once get an error or failing master. It is slow, but speed is the last thing you need when authoring 😉

I totally agree with you 🙂 But from the first post I fugured that John is new in this stuff and most probably have no extra software, but since he is is talking about DVDSP project, there is Compressor installed on his computer. That is why I wrote as I wrote 🙂

BUT in your reply there is not a single thing I would not agree with 😉

Do NOT NEVER use DVDSP for video compression. It is a function which should have been removed looooooooong ago! Do use Compressor to do this properly and there will be no errors. So what you want to do is put your MOV into Compressor and use on Present according to the length of your project (for instance DVD 90 mins High Quality). And than put the m2v and ac3 into DVDSP and there you go…

And when you are there read DVDSP manual which you will find in my signature 😉

Would you be so kind pointing me to the application? Some URL or so? Googling Director will not help much 🙂

I believe the absolutely best solution to be Squared 5. It is free, it is very fast and I use it as much as possible. And for what you need, I believe this to be the best thing.

You can export the whole DVD in unchanged quality MPEG2 that is on the DVD. And if you wish even use .avi container (but that does not matter)… You will cut and edit this one in some editing software and export as current settings (without any further encoding).

There is no point in converting the MPEG2 into anything else. You will not get any better result than there is. Only if your editing software does not support MPEG2 (which I believe it will) you might want to use Uncompress 8 bit or 10 bit… But as I said most probably there is no point doing that.

  • Yep, what I sayed still is what I believe to be the way to do it correctly.

This should be your psd 1 with backgrounds etc.

This should be the other one. just a layer in solid colour.

But really do lookup this one in a menual or at Lynda.com as I sent you before. It is a good investment.

I will not be explaining you how to do a menu in DVDSP, you should do that one 🙂

As far as drop zone is consirned I really do not know if it is a built-in part of DVDSP or some content pack. But I do believe it is…

And above that I do not want to anyhow isult you really, no bad blood, but you should maby hire someone with to do experience to do authoring. It is not that simple. I just dont like people getting into any kind of trouble 😉

    Good luck!
