That was about a year ago when I sent it in. My answer to them was:
“Too bad, because I think the EX1 should deserve a better zoom than that! There seem to be other people in this world who seem to have similar problems with their stuttering zoom” and I referred to your thread https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/142/857261#857288

I had to send it in later for another issue, bad contact on a circuit board (upon vibrations the picture went out, in camera and playbavk mode) And I must say that they fixed that problem very nicely, within a week I got the camera back including another firmware update and a fix for the battery drain problem.

I had exactly the same problem with an EX1, sent it in to Sony Europe (in France), but all they did was a firmware update with the following comment:
“Smooth operation with the handle zoom speed in “hyper slow” mode (between 1 & 10) is not guaranteed due to lens variability & environmental conditions. All we can recommend is to set the zoom speed no lower than 10 to maintain consistently smooth operation.”

April 3, 2008 at 5:04 pm in reply to: Window Media Files?

I have tried many codecs fo the internet. WMV9 flip4mac has a very good qualtiy but I was surprised of how many computers out there were not updated enough to read wmv9. Since I changed to Flash Video ( On2 Flix Pro encoding from reference files) most computers out there can read that. Remember, you must include the swf player in the same folder as the flv video file). Everything gets explained very nicely in Aharon Rabinovitz’ DVD (check the compression forum)

    Aaron,

I tried several methods for downconversion via SDI. Please look at this thread:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/4/861140

Picturewise it didn’t make a difference if I had EX1 downconvert or exit EX1 via DH-SDI and do the downconversion in media100 while aquiring.

I guess I’m sticking my neck out here, but I have to agree with Aaron.

I’m using the EX1 since a month. When downconverted to SD my old DVCPRO-50 camera with a broadcast lens makes better pictures when it comes to filigrane trees and leaves in the background. I still think that it is impossible to get the same picture out of a camera that costs 1/3 than a good broadcast lens alone.
But for HD the EX1 is a great camera and it fills the gap somewhere between the Z1 and the high-end HD-cameras.

    Hi Kieran

Downloaded RED 4.2.1 Tossed the prefs of m100 and RED (as a longtime media100 user the first thing I normally do) and tried the psf timeline, but nothing changed. Different styles are still jaggy (look like draft mode).

    Hi Kieran

does your external monitor update if you change the preview quality from draft to high? Mine doesn’t. It seems to stay at draft all the time. Only the comp window in RED changes. But then again my external monitor updates if I change the resolution (full/half/quarter).
We’ll see if somebody else chimes in …

    Thanks, Felix

    Thank’s for your help, Kieran

My title was vector based too, but yours looks a lot better.

I tried RED 3 in media 100 11.5.1 and it looks as bad as RED 4.1 in media 100 12.1.1 HDx and Producer.

Now here is an interesting one:
If I toggle the resolution in RED between full, half and quarter I see the changes on my monitor. But if I toggle quality between high and draft I don’t see any change at all, same as if I press “display HQ frame to monitor”, no change. So it looks like my system is outputing draft quality only!! Where can I change that?
(btw. play real time effects and titles in draft quality is not checked in the project settings of m 100) And one more thing, Direct export from RED to QT looks fine.

So where is that little button I’m missing which was not there in 8.2.2 ?

Greetings from Felix on a sunny Sunday.

as you are in PAL-land could you please try out the following title:
Arial, size 216, in the styles palette choose bevels Nr. 1 America, and put this on a black background.
Does the edge of the A look jagged as on my first post?

    Thanks for helping

    “Are you Intel or PPC?”
    Same problem with both.

“Have you tried with different colours?”
It doesn’t show as bad with other colors, but then again – why did it look so good on 8.2.2 and RED3? I’m sure there must be something to adjust somewhere or other users would have complained a long time ago!
I would have tried the Boris-forum but then again I was thinking that it had to do with media 100 as host.

I could try installing RED3 again with HDx and Producer but I don’t realy like to step back to ancient versions.

    thanks

    Felix
