Yes you can leave out as much of optional content as you wish. Consequences? In Motion, DVD Studio Pro, SoundTrack Pro you’ll find no ready to use templates. Sometimes templates help to speed up things especially if you are a novice user. You can install this content later.
As to FCE-FCP issue I strongly suggest you to test it first. For example, you may try to open your project on different computer and see it for yourself. You’re changing horses in the middle of the stream. If something happens you need to be able to bail out.
I believe FCE and FCP can live together without problems the same way you can have FCP 7 and FCP 7.0.3 installed. (They should have different names though.)Everest Mokaeff

Here is what I do when deal with Canon Mark II footage. Transcode original H.264 footage into ProRes 4444 or HQ, then edit it in FCP and transcode into any deliverable I might need. That’s my workflow. If you transcoded your footage into ProRes simply drag and drop clip in new sequence, will ya. FCP pops up and offer to use settings for the sequence that match your clip. Say yes. Next, open sequence settings tab and check out. Now you know how your settings must look.

Use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to batch-convert your footage into ProRess and edit it.

I don’t know what you mean by “true” but QT, FCP, MOTION, COLOR, AF, and so on would definitely think of such footage as “true”. I don’t know if it’s in gospel but it is 60, 50 or whatever frame-rate you choose because it is conversion. Could you give me a sample of your footage so I could check it myself?Everest Mokaeff

QT components are in many places. I never had to deal with issue you’re facing. If I were you I’d rather try to work it out with QT first. I’d get rid of QT7 to see what’s going on. I it didn’t help, then I’d try reinstall QT X. You can reinstall FCS 3 but it’s not source of the problem.
FCS depends on QT, albeit QT is kind of back-bond of Mac OS either.Everest Mokaeff

It’s kind of belated question you ask. Actually all of them. How you organize your workflow depends upon too many factors, let alone financial issue. The most reasonable approach is hire specialist who dealt with such problems before and is fully aware of the needs of your production. Again, depending on your needs there are lots of quite affordable solutions that let you do preliminary work of logging clips and preview without conversion. If it fits your pipeline why not to utilize it. If raid is something off limits to you consider renting edit suite with enough capacity to store your material.

I used ProRes 4444 for illustration only. I did not suggest you to use it. Sorry for confusion I caused. Let me make it clear: I do understand that you’re having problems converting your material cuz your MPEG Streamclip offers you only 50 fps for 720P material shot at 60 fps. Is that correct? I use ver. 1.9.3.b5 and it has ProRess family codecs not based on frame rate and resolution. If I do not specifically set frame rate or resolution other than original, in output video my frame rate and resolution will match original footage. If you need simply to convert 720P 60 fps into any ProRes you just drop it into streamclip, choose appropriate prores type, set quality at 100 percent. That’s it.

QT10 should playback any movs originated from within mac without any problem. The fact that it cannot while QT7 seems capable of doing so strong indication that something went awry during installation. Of course, there is a slightest chance that you, as macbook owner, might got some peculiar problem with QT10, though I doubt it. Well, if it suits you, you may go just with QT7 and forget about QT10, as was suggested in previous post.

Right on money Rafael,
this why I wanted to know what was meant by failure. I did output untold number of digital masters for broadcasting and never had had serious problems with default settings of FCP or Color broadcast filter. Of course, you might point to lax broadcast standards I have to comply with but they can’t render filter ineffective per se, do they?Everest Mokaeff
