Odd…what happens in other apps…say notepad? Those keys are held down, so I wonder if it is some kind of keyboard buffer problem as it may be lagging behind. You might experiment with adjusting the repeat rate value in keyboard settings in control panel.

I import quite a few photoshop PSD’s with alphas without problems. Couple of things you will want to check: Make sure your PSD file is RGB (CMYK files will have problems when importing). I often rasterize text and blending options before importing into avid. I also try to merge many of the layers down to one layer (don’t use Photoshop’s “flatten” option or you’ll lose your alpha channel).

I received some errors from Avid when trying to import Avid DV codec files when the were encoded using the “best” quality setting. Doing the same export again using the “high” setting I didn’t have any errors and it imported properly.
For some Avid codecs like Avid’s 1:1, I usually have to force AE using interpret footage to use lower fields first, otherwise there are interlacing artifacts. I have heard of folks doing separate fields and comps at 60i but I’ve never done it. Avid’s Dv codec is usually interpreted properly.
I render out lower field first. I commonly use AE to build animated lower thirds (name keys and such) and animated titles with text. I’ve found that by exporting out interlaced lower field first, and importing lower field first into avid, the edges of the text is much crisper and not jagged.Erik

1- exporting a HDV mpeg2 transport stream aka .M2t file. Or transcode your entire sequence to DNxHD 145, whereby you could export Quicktime same source or reference files (neither is an option for native HDV, hence the need to convert).

3- HDV capture only has one resolution: HDV.as for your mixed aspect, you can use the reformat pan & scan effect to scale your 4×3 and anamorphic widescreen footage to fill the HD frame. HDV is recorded 1440×180 but uses a pixel aspect that resizes the frame to 1920×1080 (HD). If you created comps in AE that used the DV widescreen preset, you’ve actually created a 720×480 frame with a widescreen pixel aspect ratio…You’ll either need to redo your comps in AE to 1920×1080 for best quality…

Aharon did a cool two part video on the “boomerang” effect with keyframes. Pretty informative when you’re doing these zoom/pan&scan comps.

You might do some experiments. Most application specific codecs are extremely picky about how they are encoded.
At least on my AE workstation with the Avid codecs installed. AE will cough up a QT error if the comp size is 720×480 when using the Avid DV codec, but will render if the comp is 720×486 (which seems backwards). Also, you may need to set the field renderer to lower field first, and lower the quality setting of the QT compression to “high” rather than “best” in order for it to import properly into Avid.In most cases for titles and such that are created entirely in AE, I skip the Avid codecs and export a lower field first, QT using the Animation codec set to best quality. Takes a little longer to import, but the quality is good.
Like I said, do some experiments using some short clips and see what works for your workflow.

Look around for MediaSift. It can scan your drives, show you your projects files and collect/copy/move your media. Pretty handy tool…

I’m not real familiar with the Mac OS. But in my instance with XP these permissions were set incorrectly on a file level and not on a drive level. Do you have a way of “get info” a file or folder and not the entire drive?

Oh…turning off Simple Sharing is done through Control Panel, Folder Options, click the View tab and remove the check mark from “Use simple file sharing” which is the last thing in the list.
