I think he was referring to pulling the key, at least the link he provided pulled up that thread. Often, clipping black or whites too much to eliminate the greenscreen can cause keylight to add noise to the foreground. The thread suggested using a duplicate layer technique for avoiding this.
If you problems is occurring in the source footage prior to keying…this isn’t a solution for you.

Same here. Generally take just the mic track. However, the wild track comes in handy for events and such with Q&A where either the audience isn’t given a mic or they don’t get it soon enough.
Sometimes I mix it in just a little under to give a little atmosphere if the lav mic doesn’t pick any thing up.Erik

I’d suggest sitting down with the keylight PDF manual. There are controls such as alpha/despill bias, screen balance, foreground color correction, edge color correction and other tweaks that can be used to improve the quality of your key.
Also there are a couple of tutorials at the COW that can give you some tips on improving a key. The Super Tight Junk Mattes tutorial is especially useful when dealing with greenscreens that were not lit properly.Erik

As far as I know, Avid Xpress Pro/HD/MC DV25 capture and edit is 720×480. Analog captured 1:1 is 720×486.

Do a google search for “dvd bitrate calculator or DVD bit budget.
The trick is that AC3 audio is encoded at a constant data rate depending on the number of channels (2ch ac3 is .192 Mbps). In other words it’s the only variable you can’t change. Most of these bitbudget calculators, add up the total time of your video to calculate how much space is taken up by the audio, then subtract it from the capacity of your disc, leaving the remainder (with some overhead) available for video. Since the video can be compressed at different bitrates, they then calculate the video bitrate making sure that it will fit in the remaining space on the disc.

To complicate matters, NTSC DVD-video is 720×480. During the encode to Mpeg2 those extra 6 pixels will need to be trimmed off. Usually 2 pixels from the top, 4 from the bottom (even numbers to keep the field order correct).
Also you mentioned that they are letterboxing, which means that they are either masking the top and bottom of the frame off,in the case of 4×3 footage they want to look like widescreen, or in the case of anamorphic widescreen source, they are scaling widescren video to fit proportionally with in the 4×3 frame, losing vertical resolution in the process.Erik

Sorry I’m on PC…so I think everyone else is too.
Command-Option-Shift-G for the mac will fit to the vertical keeping the aspect and losing the sides.
Command-option-shift-H for the mac will fit to the horizontal keeping the aspect and losing the top/bottom (for 4×3 image in 16×9 comp) or letter boxing (for 16×9 image in a 4×3 comp).
Command-option-shift-F will squeeze the whole thing into the frame, but not keeping the aspect…but handy when going from a large 16×9 comp like 1920×1080 to a smaller 16×9 comp like 1280×720 since the aspect is the same.Erik

Not sure…I haven’t used it in a very long time since I didn’t find it too useful in my workflow.
Mojo is connected to the system via firewire…I can’t remember if there was another option listed in the video preview option in AE after installing the plug in.Erik

First, make sure that all your vector art layers in your 4×3 comp have the “collapse transformation/continuous rasterization” switch checked. Then drop the 4×3 comp into a new 16×9 HD comp, then make sure that the “collapse transformations” button is checked, for the layer, then scale the layer to fit the screen the way you want it. Since they are true vectors they will scale with out creating a jagged blurry mess.
