No help needed. Usually Compressor works fine for me for a while.

For some reason Compressor just goes bad for many, many people. There are intensive instructions on Apples website to “clear” the corrupt Compressor files and ultimately requires a delete/install procedure that will cost a few hours time at the maximum. This happens to a LOT of people on what machine? We don’t know. I bet Apple does. YMMV.

I don’t believe that “I” am having a problem. I think Compressor 3.5 is still a bit buggy. So is Qmaster for that matter.

If I want to stop a job in compressor, I should be able to do that and have it happen quickly and efficiently. Apple Compressor needs me to find some .plist files and delete them, then restart my machine and then, maybe Compressor will release the job. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

Qmaster is still buggy as all H*ll. I have 4 instances in Qmaster and only 2 are showing up in my batch processing. I will probably have to reinstall Compressor again and then again when the bug pops up again. This has been going on for what 3-4 years now?

I am starting to seriously look other solutions.

And? So what’s your point? Call em’ up and tell them that the card is frying up. If the first Apple operator says no, politely hang up and call again until someone says yes.

Mine is a quad 3.0 waaaay out of warranty and Apple just put in a new one for free.

    Do it.

Just have Apple replace the first edition card for free. Then you need to get the after market fan for it($20?). Supposedly this fixes the issue for a more permanent timeframe.

Yes, it is the graphics card. Unfortunately, Apple only replaces the x1900xt with the same card only version 2. The x1900xt that was replaced in my computer still runs hot and I feel it is only a matter of time before it fails and I will have to purchase a new card. Apple should replace the card fpr free even if out of warranty because they have acknowledged a bad design from ATI.

Also, my Leopard install is NOT good at all on my quad 3Ghz MacPro. It will not wake from sleep and seems to always need a hard reboot because it does not start up correctly any more. My problems started after installing Leopard.

Anyone have a solution to the No Waking after Sleep problem? How about my unbelievably slow internet speeds? Anyone?

Thanks for the confidence in Qmaster. I just did ANOTHER delete/reinstall, still doesn’t work, restart, still doesn’t work, delete/reinstall now it works again but this took two hours till I have to do it again but hopefully not workflow.

Other than that, I think I’m good.

June 19, 2009 at 1:36 pm in reply to: toggle keys trick

Adobe Premiere is the only editing ap that I have used that has toggling keys like this. If I remember correctly Premiere can toggle Ripple/Roll and a few other tools and when you release the held down buttons you are left with the previously chosen tool, ie the selection arrow.

Not FCP though. Unfortunately, for now, we only have hard keys. Just remember, FCP is not the worst editing application out there. Hey, they should put that on the box!
