I think both Adobe and Black Magic have stated the GUI-accelerated API’s aren’t publicly available yet.

Crabs! Was hoping for this feature. Use it multiple times a day in legacy.

I’d imagine FX are processed on the GPUs and the RED debayer is still CPU-based. When the new RED API goes live I think that might change.

As a facility still running primarily FCP Legacy and testing FCPX and Premier Pro for various projects, FCPX 10.1 sound interesting.
The new library structure is a huge improvement. It really fit our structure far better and I have a hard time seeing any real down side to it.
It performance is better – also a huge plus. FCPX has been in my testing amazing in speed but also very “switchy” in its performance. Some task where 10-100X slower than FCP Legacy, others the opposite.
We shall see where it all ends. 10.1 feel much more thought through. Yes, there are features I’d hope to see but now I can give the app yet another test for real.

Is the FCPX video-out lag still there in 10.1?

It might just be me but my experience with Motion is it’s a nice tech-demo. But as a soon as you do something serious in it the app bogs to a halt in an instant. AE lacks the realtime but never hits this wall of pain.
Also, rendering AE-comps via Premier Pro is utter crap from my experience. You end up using one thread for rendering which can make these X-times slower.
The whole “send to” is a novel feature but at the end of the day, for me, it simply adds confusion and complexity. It’s fine when for example sending a sequence to grading but of if you have X shots needing FX the send to command mostly makes things more messy than manually handling it.
I fully agree the option of sending elements and sequence to and from Motion is good – especially for certain projectes. But in Premier – where it’s a feature many prase – I just don’t get it. I end up rendering out elements from AE instead of the editor. More confusion.
AE is getting a new video monitor solution this spring. It was aimed for the December release but for some reason it didn’t make the cut. There is a note about it in another thread.

Episode Pro, x264-option, 1080p 50 mbps. Looks great.
Another option is uploading ProRes. Also great quality but 2-4X the bandwidth. I’d recommend having a balanced mix and normalizing the audio as well.

Cool, but 30 Hz is VERY meh for a computer-screen.
