Jumping the ship to Windows will cost you in terms of software however. AE7 alone goes for $1000!

The BOX-system you linked to is a 4000 dollar system, still more than the Quad G5 (my previous post was deleted about this and I don’t have the energy to retype it again). The BOXX semed quite crippled in terms av GPU and HDD.

I’d say it’s always best to edit in the native format you shoot in and are going to output to. Shooting and output HDV it’s very good to have this option. It’s seems that PP version 2 actually does have support for this (or versoion 9, depending on how you count). When done with the offline in the native format you can transcode to prefereably an uncompressed codec and then back to whatever output you’re going to do.

When it comes to other formats such as DV50, DVCPHD or Uncompress HD 720p50/60 the info on Adobes site seems unclear (to be honest, PP 2.0 sounds a lot like FCP 5 that was introduced a year ago

  • 1. when the camera comes down the map will be not sharp but pixelated
How can I avoid or minimize this problem ?

There are two options here I’d say.

    1. Make a HUGE pixelbased map in Photoshop.
    2. Make the map vectorbased in Illustrator

    2. How could I manage it to fly through some clouds ?
This could be done with the clever partikles I’d say. Use Particular och Particle Illusion for best effect.

    Very true Ron!

Back in 1999 I was studying in Australia and I got more work done on a Performa at 100 or so Mhz running MacOS 7.x compared to using a Wintel at 200Mhz box running Windows 98.

The oposite probably goes for others. I do reckon though the trasision from Windows to MacOSX is easier than the other way around.

Or you can hold down, I think, the command/apple key and scrub with audio-preview.

Not as good as Motion, but okey.

I’d say to 95% the new release certainly looks like a solid .5 upgrade.

Two really important things I’m missing though is:

    1. Multiple projects open at the same time
    2. Better layer management

Both should be very easy to fix I reckon. Just let me use tabs as in Final Cut Pro for my projects, and let me nest comps as layered folders in comps (or just let me sort layers in folders like in Motion and Photoshop).

These to things would make me an even happier camper 🙂

  • It would be madness to konvert 50/25 i or p footage to 60/30 i or p footage during edit. That would really look like poo-poo. However, it’s true that AJA has little information about PAL-format support.

    They do support:

    1080i 50
    1080i 25
    625i 25 (standard def PAL)

However, the most interesting format for me would be

    720p 25 or 50

Natress Stanards conversion is AMAZING for NTSC -> PAL conversion. Slow and a bit quirckey at times, but very good quality output.
